I have several TVs in my house. All are set up for streaming as I stream via Roku to Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, and Direct TV Stream. Two of the TVs are Roku TVs, a TCL and Sharp. All are 4K. The built in Roku software/hardware in both sets got outdated very quickly and I ultimately decided to buy new Roku streaming boxes. There is a major upgrade in video, audio, speed, and the new Roku Ultas have voice control.

Is the software in the TV not upgradable? It seems like that should be a thing. I also have a Roku TV but I use the Roku Ultra for actual streaming, it does seem to do better. I never looked at of the TV is upgradable or not

I've been advised that they auto upgrade, but the Utra's hardware/software combo is 1000% better.

The TV manufacturers never keep up with the software and eventually abandon updates on older models.

Good to know, Im looking at a new TV soon for the Library, where I can escape and watch sports...

We’ve had the ROKU Ultra hooked up to our Samsung flat screen for a number of years now. Life as we know it would be impossible without it. We use the voice search on occasion. Handy feature. Recommend the ROKU very highly…didn’t even know they made TV’s. Or…put their name on TV’s. I likely wouldn’t buy one…pretty loyal to Samsung. The chip set in ours is supposedly one of the best they ever assembled. Good TV.

That is like the exact set up I have lol, Roku Ulta on a Samsung. I guess it's true what they say, great minds think alike.

It's not so much that Roku makes TVs. It's a capability they add add to TV, my Samsung TV has Roku software.
