I recently purchased a Peterson Lestrade pipe and after the initial break in period,it turned into a fine smoking pipe. I am currently looking at the Dr. Watson pipe. I am seeking opinions from people that own this pipe. Also,I know about past quality control issues!
I would like to hear from actual owners ,not bashers and haters! Thank you.

EZ, received mine yesterday. First smoke was okay but it will need some break in. Will let you know how it goes. PS, leaving it to you in my will, lol.

I don’t see the membership here as being composed of bashers and/or haters. Five or six years ago we had a couple of guys that were somewhat negative but they’ve been AWOL for a long time. Are you sure you’re on the right site? 😁

Ranger, good luck with the Watson, that was my 1st choice actually, but since I have been buying too many pipes,I had to sneak in another Lestrade ! Thanks for leaving me the Watson. I only hope you can enjoy it yourself for a few decades first!

Pretty sure I will like it as it has a nice large bowl and is comfortable in the hand. Next on deck is a Milverton. Love that shape.

Ranger,I really was thinking about that Milverton pipe Too. I was not sure about the bowl size compared to the Lestrade. I am with you on liking the larger sized bowl pipes.

Not quite as large as the Lestrade but bigger than the Strand I was considering and quite a bit larger than the 999 series. I like the rhodesian shape but I like the Milverton as well and the bigger bowl is a bonus.

Actually the Strand and the Milverton bowl sizes are quite comparable - both approx. 13/16" in diameter not including the bevel. The Milverton is about 1/16" deeper by my dowel/thumb/ruler measuring system :).

You are quite right, however I decided I like the square shank and bit on the Milverton better.and, while 1/16" may not be significant to the wife, on a pipe it can make a bit of difference, lol.
