Rusticated feels nice in the hand to me. Since pipe smoking is really a sensory thing....the feel of the pipe being in some ways almost as important as the flavor of the tobacco...I gravitate toward rusticated. Plus pipes are cheaper that way. Although I like the smooth look better. Cest la vie

I prepack. I find it annoying to pack my tobacco anywhere that isn't my home since there is often a slight mess afterwards. So the tobacco doesn't fall out I just put a little plastic wrap over the bowl. Then just take it out, tamp with finger, and boom.

I'm lazy. I keep it simple. Aromatics and non aromatics. The trick is with the non aromatics is don't be too schizo with it...going from a lat to a virgina to a burley...stick with one type in the pipe for a while and then later you can switch it up...the ghost will die down and doesn't bug...

I agree the pipe insert is kinda pointless. I guess it kind of helps but just tilt the Zippo and you kinda have the same thing. I don't think it matters either way.

Yeah but there is a small silver lining. I've been to a few of those shops that actually end up with real estate pipes and I think sometimes it seems they have no idea what they've got...I've seen some great deals that way. On the other hand, I also find it funny how some of those places...
