For me the older pipes are all about the stem material they used back then also. You'll know you have a good one by the weight of it in hand. It seems to have a different density to me. The oxidation is surface only, is easier to get that jet black sheen to it and keep the fit to the shank...

It is an battery powered electric jar opener from amazon. The rubber thingies really help a lot, but I have to remember to not squeeze with the hand on the lid but to relax it. Squeezing it for me makes the lid harder to start the spin.
