Did you catch anything?

Strange, I didn't get any molasses taste at all. More of a grassy virginia. Got this from Brunello so not sure which blend it was. But rather disappointing. Based on reviews I expected more. Maybe expected too much..
If you didn't get any burley or molasses, you may have been smoking something else.

A third of the way through this bowl of D&R Penhooker Silver in a straight smooth brown undated pre-republic Peterson Shamrock 263 Canadian with a nickel band and a black tapered vulcanite p-lip stem.

Took my little Winston 3wt out in search of a few 'gills and they liked a black pheasant tail nymph...

BUT...so did a cat; I'm guessing he'd go 22-24". I was afraid this might happen - lots of them in this lake - and I was kinda worried about the little rod; he bent it at least double a few times. I worked him for what seemed like forever - guessing it was somewhere around 15-20 minutes. Finally got him to the shore but the bank there is so steep and the riprap is a little treacherous for my 74-year-old bones. I had my gripper with me but I couldn't figure out how keep the rod up, keep the fish on, and get that gripper on his lip. Finally I knew I had to do what I didn't want to do: wrapped the leader around my hand and got close, but as soon as I reached the gripper for him he gave one last buck and he was gone along with my fly and most of my leader. So, no pic, no fish, no fly...but big fun!

Back in the midwest used to fish a big lake nearby in my one man raft with an orvis 4wt. Got lots of gills and brim. Then one day hooked into a big bass. Damn near pulled the rod out of my hand. Played him for almost 20 min and finally got him. About 20". Had him for supper, lol.

McB 7 seas regular in a large I. Baglin hand carved meer. Orange spice tea on the side. Nice afternoon smoke. Light misty rain falling as compared to the boomer monsoon we had 2 hours ago.

Now smoking year 2016 Orlik Golden Sliced in a black sandblast quarter bend pre-1950 Briarcraft Wimbledon 810 author with a tapered black vulcanite stem. First time smoking this pipe. Getting really good flavor from it, too.

Enjoyed a small, but tasty golden delicious apple, and am smoking Watch City Simply VOriental in a straight smooth medium brown 1930s Wilshire 5 bulldog (Comoy’s second) made for John’s Pipe Shop in Los Angeles with a black vulcanite saddle stem. Ice water and bergs is my drink.

Has anyone have any opinions on the Peterson shamrock line of pipes? seems to be a lot of hazy info online. The one I am looking at is an older one,but I am a sucker for these author pipes...

I have an older Billard Shamrock that has a size 4 bowl that I smoke. Not in my top ten list but I can smoke anything in it and will deliver a quality smoke. I think they are a very decent pipe for the price they go for in the estate market.

Good idea. There's no Virginia in the ERR Match.
Checked the bag and it was the original baggie from Sutliff with their label. Tried it in a MM Mark Twain cob which did bring out more of the burley taste. Maybe my palate just isn't nuanced enough to discern the molasses. Reminded me a bit of some half and half I tried a few months ago. At any rate won't be getting more.
