Going on a quail hunt Saturday. Never done it. Hoping to be able to post some more pics Saturday afternoon!

If you like the vintage production rods by U.S. companies like South Bend, Heddon, Montague, etc. from the 40's, and 50's (and I do) most seem to be found in 8-1/2 to 9', and 6,7, or 8 weights. I have a 7-1/2' South Bend 290 that seems to fish a 5 or 6 equally well, and an Orvis Madison in the same configuration that does too, and a big ol' Orvis 9' Battenkill that handles a 7 or an 8 very well. My lighter rods are all more contemporary, a 6'6" 3wt by Headwaters and a Glenn Brackett-Era R.L Winston 7-1/2' 4wt.

I too like the Orvis bamboos….have 4 & 5 weight.

I love the fly fishing pics

super green at it and haven’t done it much. I have a 7wt I use to target steelhead but it’s been maybe a year and a half since ive been at it.
Definitely caught a lot more little cut throats than big stealhead, but I have landed one on a brown wooly bugger.

the 7wt is definitely overboard for these little guys, but the big ones are out there. Friends have landed giant cut throat and stealhead on this stream.

They’re particularly good this time of year. We plant a feed plot of extra veggies in the back of the yard (with a good vantage point from the kitchen window), so they get fattened up nicely. I like to do them southwest style, shredded with beans and peppers and such over rice. And rabbits work better than squirrels for teaching my eldest boy how to take and process small game.

4.8 lb. Rainbow caught on ultralite spinning 2lb test.
I also enjoy fly fishing with my Orvis 5wt. fine and far.

Sure is.
Today was its virgin outing.
I just picked it up. It’s a CZ bobwhite. Turkish import made my Huglu, nothing super fancy but it’s put together real nice and fit and finish seems top notch so far.

Loved having it out today.
The CZ shotguns are really nice! I bought a CZ grouse in 28 gauge side by side and really like to shoot even better than my 20 gauge Winchester over and over.
