Greetings from the Blue Mountains of New South Wales, Australia.

Very happy to have joined this forum. I smoked a pipe when younger before switching to exclusively cigarette smoking for a couple of decades. After quiting smoking entirely for a decade I have recently taken up pipe smoking again.

Most of my pipes are Petersons and they are mostly what I reach for each day. As far as tobacco, I am largely a smoker of aromatics.

Looking forward to some enjoyable conversations on pipes and tobacco.

Used to spend a fair amount of time in NSW playing ball against the NHRU teams.
The Blues are beautiful....striking geography.
And right next door to the Hunter Valley....some of the finest wines in the world.
Any trip to play in NewCastle required a visit to both locations

Tell us about tobacco prices in OZ....I would imagine they are fairly steep?
Most of your tobacco growing in NSW is so heavily restricted.
Doesn't most of your tobacco come from Queensland & Victoria?

Hi. Yes, tobacco is very expensive in Australia, mainly due to very high taxation on this particular product.

There is actually no commercial Australian tobacco growing anymore after the de-regulation of the industry in the 1990s made it unable to compete with imported tobacco.

So all the tobacco I smoke is from overseas, mainly the US and Europe.

But yes, the vast the majority of Australian tobacco was grown in sunny Queensland, with quite a bit also grown in Victoria and almost none in New South Wales.

So you’re a rugby player? I played for a couple of years as a kid, but am mostly a fan of the beautiful game. West Sydney Wanderers fan, and recently saw Celtic FC go down to Sydney FC in Sydney.

Played with some USA touring sides and then landed a spot with Ponsonby and Papakura in Kiwiland. Wonderful 4 years.
Trips to Sydney always required a few boxes of Bolivar Gigantes cigars. And a visit for social interaction with the pubs and Shielas in Kings Cross.

Welcome Padraig, we must be neighbours. I'm in Springwood.

A huge Peterson fan here myself, love 'em to bits as they allow me to smoke the wettest tobacco, dryly.
Pretty close: I am a bit further up at Katoomba :)

Re Petersons, agreed - I am a terrible fan of aromatics and have a bad habit of smoking wet, so Petersons are great for me. Though my pipes are overwhelmingly from Dublin, I have started to look at and purchase a few pipes from elsewhere. I bought a couple of pipes just a few days ago which are very different from my usual Petersons that I am very happy with. Might post some pics later.

Bought myself some lovely Cubans when I was down in the city yesterday :)
