So I have been smoking a pipe for about a year, mostly bulk tobacco from my local Just for him. Im unclear on the differences but why is the tobacco in tins so much more expensive? I understand that people buy and age it, but why is it more expensive before its aged? Is it the name on the front that causes it to be expensive? Thanks for any insight

Concept: You go to a strip mall and The Golden Coral for an all you can eat buffet or you go downtown to Mortons for a well aged & crafted Kobe steak. That, plus the added cost of tinning itself.

You got it. Some tinned tobacco is higher quality, some is just the name on the tin. Imports, like McBaren or Rattrays pay more for taxes and shipping. But like Blackhorse said, you can go to Walmart and buy Rustler jeans for $15,or go to the dept. store and pay $38 for Levi's. Up to you to decide which is best for you.

Another idea....check on the pipesmagazine.com to find the retailers in MO. Then find a shop to talk/see and get samples would be helpful owners.

I read a lot of reviews on the tobaccoreviews website. Once you see some of the guys giving high ratings on the blends you like check what they think about the blends you want to try. Chances are better if they like them before you try them.

Excellent! Great minds think alike. I’ve been giving this same advice for years.

"find the retailers in MO" I chuckled at this. When I first moved here, there was a listing for a tobacco shop
in Warsaw, which is about 10 miles from me. I went there and found it to be a toy store! Now it is a beauty
salon! I have to drive about 30 miles to find a facsimile of a tobacco shop. Yeah, it is a liquor store with an
area for tobacco with a closet for cigars! That is why I do all my tobacco shopping on line.

Check about pipesmagazine.com on retailers I posted. These were retailers brick and mortar not any toy store, beauty salon etc.

PS: The magazine may not up to date directory especially covid virus, but I have shopped in St. Louis, Columbia, KC MO, Springfield, Branson.

Is there any point in aging bulk aromatic blends? Not sure how that would work with the top dress. Nice things should still happen to the tobacco though.
