Greetings from Melbourne Australia. I am a noobie to this hobby and am looking forward to gaining information and advice in relation to the briar. I only have one briar, a Falcon, that I inherited from my father. He used to smoke Amphora Full Aroma in it.

I have since purchased a few MM cobs and quite enjoy them. I have tried some Amphora, as well as a few blends from Mclellands. I am currently enjoying some Mellow Mack and have just received an order from 4noggins which included some Peterson Sunset Breeze and some G.L Pease Ashbury. I have tried some of the Mclellands Oriental (bulk) and thought the Ashbury may lead me down the 'balkan' path.

Although I reside in Australia, I am currently working in the Solomon Islands (for the next 18 months) where I enjoy having a bowl while overlooking the harbour at Auki.

I will keep you informed on how I find the Sunset Breeze and Ashbury, and if anyone has suggestions for a hot weather smoke I would like to here their opinions.

I would like to obtain another briar pipe and am looking at my options, both new and estate.

I look forward to learning more about this wonderful pastime,

Stay Safe.

Welcome aboard, mate! Solomon Islands, eh? Man, I wish I was sitting on the beach right about now... I live in Alaska, where, at this very moment, it is DUMPING snow. It isn't necessarily that much colder than a lot of places, but winters are much longer and much darker. At any rate, regarding tobaccos for hot weather, a lot of pipers smoke virginias and va/pers in the summer, and English/balkan blends in the winter -- kind of like drinking an amber ale in the summer and stout or porter style beer in the winter. Best of luck to ya, and let us know if you get a new pipe. Be sure to amble down the beach, with a pipe full of tasty weed-age, enjoying the sand and water for me. And congrats on joining this great on-line community of pipe and tobacco enthusiasts!

Thanks for all your kind words. Thanks for your suggestions in relation to warm weather tobacco, I will give them a try.

Welcome to Bob from Sydney.

As you'll be smoking in the tropics, I'd suggest either another falcon, you can buy extra bowls for your one and switch them out, or a Peterson system pipe. Both have moisture traps which you will likely have to empty mid smoke if it is humid. Use a little bit of coiled pipe cleaner in the dome underneath your falcon bowl to help absorb more moisture.

As for blend suggestions, I smoke all sorts of blends all year round, mostly Latakia heavy ones. I actually associate Virginia blends with Christmas as that was when I'd open a tin of McClellands Christmas Cheer.
