Hello all,

Returned to pipe smoking last fall and discovered this forum looking for advice, news, reviews, and enablers. Happy to have found it.

I tried to start smoking a pipe back in 2000/2001, at the age of 18. At the time I had no idea what I was doing, no one to teach me, and no thought to look for advice on technique on the internet. I was smoking Captain Black in cobs and I couldn't keep it lit because I didn't even know what tamping was. After a few months of dozens of relights per bowl, obliterating my tongue and mouth, I gave up. Cut to last fall when the weather began to turn and I found some of my old cobs and old briar in a box at the bottom of my office closet. A few searches later and I've amassed a small collection of briar (and morta) and half a closet full of pipe tobacco. I've sinced learned how to tamp a pipe and also discovered I am no great fan of burley.

I don't expect I will post much, I find I'm mostly a wallflower in these sorts of forums. Still, I wanted to say that I am happy I found these forums and am now immensely enjoying a daily bowl or three during my commutes and walking my dog.

Welcome to the group! If you're still into corncobs check out the very old post "Corncob Primer" it's a good resource. You can also find it on pipedia.org. I'm not Burley friendly either including Perique and Dark Fired Kentucky. Enjoy the forum!
