The perfect morning to wake up to...

So first, a little back story: As some of you may or may not know from my profile, I have a particular fond for Mr. Vladamir Grechukhin's pipes starting since 2011 when I purchased a pipe of his when smokingpipes.com became a dealer. Since then, I have collected so far 6 pipes from the man...

What does fills look like after LOTS of smoke?

I know people hate fills for 2 reason: 1. Craver trying to hide flaws from buyer (either unethical or just low grade pipe/briar) and 2. After lots of smoke it melts down and eventually show off the flaws beneath So as regards to reason no.2, is there any photos anyone can post to show me...

Can anyone recommend a good pipe refurbisher?

I just recently bought a nice estate pipe from ebay that requires a good bit of refurbishing (inside and out). I have researched a few places such as Starfire pipe works, Walkers pipe repair etc. Does anyone have any experience with those? Or perhaps got one that they can personally recommend?

How to get rusticated pipes shiny again??

As the title suggest. What do you guys use to polish rusticated pipes? I usually use Renaissance wax on my smooth pipes but they're way too hard for deep sandblast/rusticated finishes. Also a buffer is out of the option for me :(

    The Volcano shape....Love? Hate?

I don't own any yet and was never a big fan but I've just fell in love with one today. Before that, I've always thought they're not very ergonomic in the hands. But, to be fair, I've never hold one before. What are your opinions?

What do you like to drink along with your smoke?

Something I haven't put much thought about until recently, I had a slip of water while smoking GLP Charing cross, and my god it somehow either completely destroyed my taste bud, or bad chemical reaction with the tobacco itself. Either way, it left me a bad taste and a bad smoke. Now I usually...

Pipes with very light tan finish

So I've taken a 4 month break from pipe smoking (don't know why i stopped) and just recently got back into it again. I saw a pipe for sale and it has a very lightly tan colored finish. Now I've always loved the light tan finish but I've never owned one because they feel so delicate to me and...

    Estate: over reamed chamber

So I got my eye on this estate from smokingpipes.com. The photos looks good, but the condition report claims it got 'over reamed chambers' and the score is 4.2/5. Now i would think over reamed meant it had gone thru to the wood (not sure if it's even or uneven). Is it a dealbreaker? the pipe is...

    Squeaky/stuck tenons

Now, I know the most typical method is to give your pipe a trip to the fridge. And I have done so on my beater pipes with great effect. But I found it's usually not a permanent fix. It becomes smooth for a short while before going squeaky or completely stuck again. I've read in a few places...

Question about drillings in crazy shanks

I've always wondered, how in the world did they drill the shank when its like this?? For those interested, the top pipe is by Kristen Tarp and bottom by Gasparini.

Pipes that whistles when I blow in it

Does it mean the drilling is off center? Or that the draft hole/air hole is not at the very bottom of the bowl?

Do you smoke your best or worst pipe?

Best and worst not as in performance, but as in the ones you love and the ones you couldn't care less about (beaters) I'll be frank, I have not smoked any of the pipes in my collection that I love. Not because they're too valuable too be smoked, but it's mainly because of the tobaccos. I have...

    Nosewarmers....or not?

I saw this nosewarmer that i kinda dig, but i'm not sure how much i would actually appreciate it's stubby profile. (I don't own any stubby pipes) The length is 11.6 cm (4.55 inches) so its not an ultra short pipe, but the bowl is big and takes up nearly half the total length. Any nosewarmer...

    Oiling a pipe???

I was browsing thru the web looking for new and better potential wax/polish for my pipes and I was on this Australian company's website that specialize in wood waxes/polishes and they have an short intro on benefits of oiling wood furnitures: Does anyone has any experience with oiling a pipe...

    Chamber shapes: U vs V

Which one do you prefer and why? Personally, from the topic 'oily cake' which I posted few days before, I've found out that my 2 V shaped pipes doesn't smoke anywhere near as well as my U shaped ones. It could be that I use the same packing technique on both types and I need to adjust the...

    Oily cake

I have one bent pipe in my rotation that always have oily cake. I dry ream all my pipes after smoking, that is, wiping the chamber with tissues, minor scraping with a tool and keeping the cake to a minimum. All my other pipes and cobs have a dry cake except this one and I'm certain it's not the...

    Question about 'complexity'

I'm not too sure about the definition of a tobacco complexity. Is it: 1. you can taste many flavors and different kinds of tobaccos in one puff or 2. The tobacco's taste changes as you smoke it thru midway, at the end etc or 3. The tobacco taste change with each puff or 4. All of the above...

How long does a piezo lighter last??

The question above, can't find a proper answer anywhere on google. Also I've been looking at Sarome's piezo lighter, namely the PSP and PSP3 series. On their website, it stats their 'number of ignition' is around 250-270 times. sarome.com/products/smokingarticles/piezo/psp.html Does that mean...

    Removing the shank cleaning

This question has been in my head for a while now, lets say you have a straight or bent pipe that passes a pipe cleaner like a champ. Is there any reason why we should remove the stem and actually clean the part of the wood in the shank thats touching the tenon? I'm asking because: 1. whenever...

Question about storing your pipes for a LONG time...

And I mean a long long time, like years. Would putting an unsmoked pipe in a leather pouch then into a tight small cardbox box and finally shoved into a dark corner of a drawer be a good/bad idea? My main concern is that if the lack of oxygen throughout the years will ruin the wood?
