I dried it, I tried it, I liked it!!!!

Congrats! My cigar experience re-enforced my desire to see what drying pipe tobacco did. I'm a dry-boxer with cigars and usually store on the low side of 65% anyway. Cigars that don't like that RH I don't buy by the box like Cammies, etc. I hate humectant(sp?) because it's so hard to dry enough...

    I am tired...

I agree! FIRST, there are PLENTY of good latakia blends out there and SECOND try blending your own. I have a blast mixing McConnell Blending latakia with various orientals and VAs, etc. Latest was with 3 parts Exhausted Rooster, one part McC Oriental #8 and one part latakia. The McClelland has...

    SG's Balkan Flake

I have yet to try either SG Balkan Flake or 1792 but apparently the 1792 does contain this condiment. Although I have tried a Deer Tongue flavored mixture from Peretti that I like on occasion, I'm naturally leery of stuff non-tobacco. But pipe tobacco nearly all has some sort of topping or...

    Cornell & Diehl Exhausted Rooster

I'm on my third tin and love this stuff! I'm not so sure about aging potential, though. It's hard to improve on perfection! ;)

    Peretti Burley?????

Pricey? Only in MA. Many bulk blends go for $20 for 8 oz. "All Burley/American blends are priced as follows: $2.80-oz. / $20.00-8oz. / $40.00-lb. (When ordering from Massachusetts: $3.35-oz. / $24.00-8oz. / $48.00-lb.)" from site: Peretti Burley Page My favorites are D-9575 and Cuban Mixture

C&D Exhausted Rooster, brick in a can?

Baste it for thanksgiving dinner? :D Probably my favorite VaPer. Most assume it's the perique that lends it that pungent aroma but I think it's mostly the VAs. Yes, I'll bet age would be interesting on this blend.

    Syrian vs. cyprian

Does anyone have an opinion about McConnell Syrian Latakia? It doesn't taste like most of the Cyprian I've had and I've certainly tasted some that claimed to be Syrian but tasted like Cyprian. If it's not Syrian, it's pretty tasty stuff, which is all that probably matters anyway. ;)

10 and 11 year old McClelland Orientals

Alex scored me some Oriental #8 from 2000 and I cracked it! Very interesting and enjoyable but I think I'll be using it primarily for blending. Burns great with some of the tastier Oriental I've tried. Not enough VA for my tastes, though. Thanks, Alex! Steve

A few Cornell and Diehl Questions

Hi Alex! Yup, I noticed many are similar, but not exactly alike, either. And quite a few are unique, to my limited experience, too. It does make fans of one blend curious about other ones enough to buy and that's what marketing's all about, I guess. ;)

I saw a familiar handle or two

Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone! I'm still active on eHerf but mostly in the Pipe section now(along with free_bryd15). Ditto for CigarPass(along with Benjamin Button and others). I had never explored the non-aromatics before and a brother at eHerf sent me SG FVF, C&D OJK, and others to...

I saw a familiar handle or two

My name is Steve and I've just re-started pipe smoking after 20 years. I saw some fellow cigar forum members here so they can tell you what a jerk I am. I've been looking for a pipes-only forum since getting back into pipes recently. I smoked only "drug store" brands years ago. I...
