    Patty Tarler has passed.

When I first smoked C&D blends, I'd buy them direct from the Tarlers via phone and Patty always took the calls.

    What Are You Reading?

Brewdude, in your mention of Sanford and Rollins, you named 2 prolific authors I've enjoyed immensely. Read all of their books. They've all been pretty good reads. Too bad about libraries closing due to covid 19. Happened here too and miss it, though have gotten most of my reading...

    Peterson 4AB.

I have a Pete 4s and believe it would look better with a tapered stem as would all my deluxe system pipes. the Rathbone, though, is a good looking pipe in its own respect though.

    What Are You Reading?

I enjoyed the trilogy. King co-produces a current TV series entitled Mr. Mercedes which just started it's third season. Quite like it. The first 2 seasons largely followed the trilogy until toward the end of season 2.

    Favorite Pipe Brand/Pipemaker?

If you find decent Petes, they can become fairly addictive if you like their design aesthetic, which I do. I find their bowl designs quite attractive, particularly the designs stemming from their Sherlock Holmes line. Most I have like that are rusticated Kinsales bought new and were flawless in...

    Favorite Pipe Brand/Pipemaker?

Brewdude, I have more Petersons than any other maker. They are my favorite. Have had no issues with any of those I have bought but realize not everybody can claim that. Never owned an artisan pipe.

    Peterson Summertime pipes?

I'm a traditionalist, so I don't do blue or green, But Peterson probably has more lines of pipes than anyone. They have several newer lines that are fairly traditional such as the Newgrange, Derry, and Waterford lines. As for white stems, those seem to be quite in fashion considering their...

There's a poltergeist messing with me

Something fishy goin on for sure, but it's no fish tale. We lived in another house once where we wondered about this kind of thing with lights and appliances working when they felt like it and repairmen saying nothing was wrong. But this kind of thing really defies natural explanations! It's not...

There's a poltergeist messing with me

So yesterday the filtration pump in the aquarium in my den stopped working and I buy another. I unplug the old one to install the new one. As I'm taking the old one out of the water, it starts running again-unplugged. :face: Today I'm sitting in the den enjoying a pot of tea. Tea cup is empty of...

Well Brothers, I guess my pipe smoking days are over now

Each person, of course, must weigh their own risks but a little over 1 year ago I had triple bypass surgery. Didn't smoke for about 3 months. But that was simply due to the anesthesia temporarily screwing up my sense of taste. Now back to smoking my pipes as much as ever. Of course, got the same...

    sherlock holmes squire

There are a number of SH shapes I love but cannot afford their price. Instead I've gotten the same shapes I've wanted in the Kinsale line for under 1/2 the price. I simply stay away from their smooth line and get rusticated as the coating on the smooth ones is the biggest culprit of any Pete for...

    sherlock holmes squire

That's a "red spray" SH and they are coated. I'm a big fan of Pete pipes but would be leery of coated ones as I've heard many a horror story of the coatings "bubbling off," though haven't heard that per se about the red sprays. Wish Peterson would stop that practice. Earl

    Authors and Bulldogs

While I'd agree that the contemporary notion of a Rhodesian is as you noted-a round shank-older catalogues or advertisements of British-made pipes other than just Dunhill, noted Rhodesians as diamond-shanked. Earl

    online blues radio

Decided to amend my original recommendation. While I'd still rank it 1a, a very close 1b is the modern blues channel @ skyfm. It's always pretty kick-ass. Earl

    Furniture Polish & Floor Wax

Actually, have long used a rag saturated with Pledge to polish bowl and stems. Good job of shining and preventing oxidation with no affect in terms of tainting taste. Earl

    Matches or a pipe lighter

Actually, never knew pipe discussion boards existed til I googled, (if there was a google then), re pipe lighters and the difficulty in getting them to work for very long. It led me to Knox, the predecessor of this board. Have had a # of lighters in the past and they all gave up the ghost in too...

    Late-night pipe smoking locales

My fellow dorm residents in the early 70's applied the same approach to eliminate smoke of another variety from their environs.  Earl

    What's up with SF?

Those aforementioned collectors would congregate on their old subforum the common sewers. I liked following that as well as a few other subforums including 1 of your favorites about English pipes riff raff, which they referred to as social groups. As for now, all social groups are gone and with...
