    Last Pipe Purchase of 2023

Well, I last bought a pipe in October, but after the miss with the new now returned off drilled Ropp (handled very well by SP), I had my sites on a Briarworks because they have a reputation for being well made with good drilling. I like the classic shapes, so decided on a C91 in blasted brown...

    Centenarians and Tobacco Smoking

I came upon and article on 100 year old plus people and their lifestyle. Interesting about the smoking: Based on years of data from studying centenarians, Barzilai reported that when analyzing the data from his particular pool of centenarians, at age 70:12 37% were overweight 8% were obese 37%...

    Praying Over Tobacco

Good morning BoB's, I found this interesting article from a Smoking Pipes email. I have done this but not consistently, and I have religious beliefs. I almost always pray over my food and ask that God bless it for nourishment. I am going to try to remember this for my pipe...

New Ropp Mid-Century Drilling Questions and Concerns

Good morning BoBs. I just received this pipe from Smoking Pipes. It is an new and still unsmoked M303 bent acorn shape. I havent yet gotten it to pass a tapered cleaner. Taking apart the stem, I see that the draft hole is drilled high relative to the tenon. It looks to possibly have a bit of...

    Prince Shape and French Pipes

I'm considering myself a "collector", if only from the collect to smoke standpoint. I don't have a prince shape yet nor a pipe made in France, and have studied the lines of what is said to be the original prince design by Loewe & Company. This shape is available in variations from several...

    Tabac Manil

Happy Labor Day BoBs. I am thinking about ordering some Tabac Manil Semois, but would appreciate any information about which cut to get for the best taste. The La Brumeuse and La Volute look to be good larger cuts, but there a few reviews on TR for the latter crumble cake. I am ruling out Petit...

    Somerset pipe brand

There is very little on the web about this brand, so I thought I'd see if any had any knowledge about them. There is the mention of a name in the Dunhill Pipedia writeup. "Major Malcolm Somerset-Johnstone". Thanks

2023 Tobacco Crop in the Field

Just thought I'd post a few pictures of the current tobacco crop in the field from Tennessee. In the first one look to the right for the dark green. This will be fire cured using hardwoods and sawdust. I suppose it is likely this dark fired could end up in some pipe blends.

    Linkman's and early Dr. Grabows

My interest in Kaywoodies has re- fueled an interest in Dr. Grabows and the preceding Linkman pipes. Using Pipedia, I've tried searching ebay for the like according to the Pipedia info showing models with early years like Duke, Crown Duke, etc. I'm hoping to find old briar this way. Does anyone...

Vintage RJ Reynolds Prince Albert Tin and Tobacco

Today at antique store, I spotted this tin which had a tag saying an unopened pouch. Bought this for $7.99, and tobacco is indeed still sealed, but the tin wasn't. I'm debating whether to smoke it or save. A search shows Middleton began producing PA from 1987 on, so this is at least 36 odd years...

    Kaywoodie Supergrain

I saw a post in the sales section on one of these pipes, and from the comments, that one would be a good pipe to buy. It sold. I found one of these in an antique store that had the block lettering for Kaywoodie and script writing for Supergrain. Unfortunately, the stem was stuck in the tenon and...

    S&R Pipe

Picked up this interesting pipe for a song. The rim had me at first thinking it was lined, but a closer look makes it seem to be a rusticated ring around the rim. The one side shows some birds eye grain, but needs a good cleaning. This maker was a husband and wife out of Ohio. Here is a link...

    Finally got a Barling

I'd been wanting a Barling for a while. I saw some at Muletown yesterday, and wish I'd bought one but didn't. I still may contact on guy again for a possible pre-transition pipe. I'd been watching this one on ebay and won at a good under $40 price. The finish, color, and shape just really caught...

    Peterson 302 system Smoke Time

Good morning BoB's I am looking at this pipe, and the chamber is around 1.25 inches deep by .85 wide inner. Anyone have any thoughts or experiences on smoke time with these? Id go for a B42 as Ranger107 suggested, but have a lead on a estate 302-not on ebay. Thanks...

    Schwab's or Straus Blends

Hey Y'all, I'm looking for blends from either B&M to try. Have decided on Straus Private Stock, since it's a really old blend and maybe some Sleepy Holliw if they have it. I'm not much of an aro smoker. Schwab's pretty much open, as don't know their blends, but hear some are 30 years old.
