    Carter Hall / Prince Albert

I use empty Middleton tubs for bulk storage with no problems. Unopened, the Middleton tubs will and do keep the tobacco fresh for at least five years in my experience.

    Corn Cob side burn out?

It'll be better if you can let the pipe mud cure for three days Brian. Hopefully it was thick and gluey.

    Corn Cob side burn out?

Side burnouts are extremely rare, as are burn outs period. Being a new smoker, your technique probably isn't perfect, but not bad enough to cause a burnout. If it does indeed burn out a;; the way, hang onto it and collect any other burnouts in the future, as Missouri Meerschaum will replace any...

Blends on which You Changed Mind

After enjoying Carter Hall for 55 years as one of my favorites, lately CH hasn't quite tasted the same.

    The Corncob Primer 3/03/2012

While burleys really shine in cobs, anything you smoke should be good. Just make sure to dry your tobacco first.

Astley 109 is a broken flake and my favorite Virginia.

Pairing Your Drink With your Tobacco...Recommendations

I drink both coffee with creamer and hot green tea, no matter what I smoke. I do drink a variety of flavors of green tea, and will sometimes match a flavor with a tobacco. I've been alcohol free for close to 40 years.

There are no foolish questions about cobs. Hope you enjoy the Storm Front.

    The Corncob Primer 3/03/2012

I think the answer is that intense heat is involved, and those bits of tobacco and charred shank particles become fused in the once empty spaces. I would imagine the heat somewhat sanitizes everything down there.

    The Corncob Primer 3/03/2012

That's obviously a much used, well taken care of cob. Some of my cobs look like that, many others still look a bit better. Only time will tell how they end up looking.

    The Corncob Primer 3/03/2012

Yes, you somehow misunderstood me. I clean every pipe I own after each smoke, including the shank and the entire interior of the bowl. I'm a slow and fairly cool smoker, so I have never had the inner shank of any cob burn completely away. At best they become charred over time, with bits of the...

    Which VAPER is Best?

http://www.4noggins.com/JohnPattonsCOOLHANDFLUKE.aspx I named it Cool Hand Fluke because I don't care for Perique, but somehow created a VaPer that quite a few experienced smokers really enjoy.

how often does a pipe need to be cleaned

I clean my pipes completely after every smoke. That way the tobacco tastes like it should, I never have sour pipes, and I have never had to use salt and alcohol.

would you ever "finance" a pipe purchase?

The wonderful thing about smoking mostly nothing but corncobs is that I never have to worry if I can afford another one.

    John Patton's Oriental Dusk

The interesting thing is that it doesn't take very long for tobacco to begin aging. which means changing. The fact that I add nothing to my blends beyond with the supplier used to processs the individual tobacco might possibly speed up aging. I hope you all find that my blends are all enjoyable...

    Question about 'complexity'

No two blends, especially complex ones, are the same. Most changes in flavor are fairly subtle, rather than the slap-in-the-facr kind.

    Pipe tool recomendation

Well, I mostly smoke cobs, since I could never afford a $600 pipe. But now I see your point.
