https://www.briarreport.com/ Yes on the GKCPC. For ten years or so. Cigar & Tabac is still hosting meetings. Been on this board off and on since day 1. Was part of the startup crew, in fact. Not many originals like us left, though.

Definitely a "be careful what you wish for" situation. Nothing kills a board faster than a comment carpet bomber, and some are guaranteed to show up with a higher site profile. That said, the #2 cause of board death is the slow-drift-away-gradual-flatline which happens when a group is small...

    Does anyone remember George Dibos?

Yo.  :D I indeed drift in and out of forums.  The primary reason being the arrival of one (or several) massively enthusiastic "carpet bombers" who post 15-20, even 30 (!) times a day, derailing existing conversations and digging up dead horse threads by the dozen.  The din goes on for months...

    Dating My New Dunhill

Yeah. The stem is definitely a molded replacement. That plus the 6/8 confusion is what led me to conclude the pipe was a copy. Turns out you have a legit old Dunhill stummel (bowl), but a more recently made stem. The smoke that travels through it doesn't care, of course (in the...

    Dating My New Dunhill

Remove the stem and take a close-up of the end of the button, and another shot of the tenon so that its base---where it joins the larger diameter part of the stem---is visible. As for being a 463, that's definitely it...

    Dating My New Dunhill

Based on your photos, it looks like your pipe is actually a Chinese fake. There has been periodic floods of them in the past few years. The stamping makes little sense, stem is definitely molded, and the shape number is for Dunhill's "Duke" shape, not a pot.

    Pipe ≠ Ago?

The not equal logo on the stem is a giveaway. That sort of thing requires a purpose-built, heated, embosser type of machine (like an arbor press, sort of), and custom aluminum extrusion. The first is very expensive, and the second must be bought in large minimum quantities from a custom...

Got my pipe back from Norwood

How many times do you have to hear it, Sas?  Pipes that are shaped like a hockey stick and treated to make every tobacco taste like Molson have little appeal outside Canadia.

Got my pipe back from Norwood

In my previous post, I opened with this: After thinking about it (it was originally written a couple years ago), the reason actually seems pretty clear. Pipes were considered consumables, never mind their stems.  An analogy would be soles for shoes, or tires for cars.  A temporary tool...

Got my pipe back from Norwood

Hi guys. Sas gets it.   I posted to another forum a while back about why there are so few pipe repairmen, and came up with the following.  Thought I'd cut & paste it here. ------------------- In the pipe repair world, for reasons lost to history, the output of repair shops is viewed as a...

    New Mandolin day!

The more you know about the Thile family, the more star-studded it becomes. Chris is married to this woman: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1309643/?ref_=fn_al_nm_1

Yup. Here's his site: http://www.sethilepipes.com/ Scott is also a musician. He played upright bass for the three monster-talented kids that became Nickel Creek. Betcha heard a them, too.

You know who Chris Thile is, I imagine. Did you know his dad is a pipe maker as well as the founder of Pipedia?

Personal defense handgun suggestions for women?

This is the exactly correct answer.   ^^^^ I knew (and was offered an instructor's job at Gunsite) by Jeff Cooper, and competed with many of his acquaintances at a high level for a number of years (and later in the IPSC).  As hardcore as they were about stopping power, they also understood that...

    Goodbye my friend.

I decided long ago that the unequal lifespans of dogs and humans is probably the single greatest flaw in the Universe. The only solution is not to dwell on it, but get another puppy ASAP. :D Besides bringing on the delight, they'll keep you too damn busy to think about much else for a...
