PD: Ouch! So that's
why it hurts to sit down.
Actually, George's generalization (that it applies to "all businessmen") is bullshit. It's a cheap shot for an easy laugh. I don't deny that there are some unscrupulous scumbags out there, but I've never done business that way, and I now lots of other folks (and companies) that act with integrity and don't screw their customers.
Truth be told, I can't afford to be a scumbag. All of my clients found me by word of mouth...meaning my reputation. Nothing obligates them to keep using my services. If I treated them the way Mr. Carlin says all businessmen behave, they'd tell me to pound sand. He's just wrong.
Even when I was an employee, I always believed that the best job security was excellence. I carried that with me when I went independent, and it has never failed. I just treat people the way I want to be treated.
Maybe more importantly, I don't treat them the way I don't want to be treated. It works.
