As some of you may know, the Peterson 4AB model was the one Basil Rathbone smoked in the Universal Sherlock Holmes movies. This model hasn't been made in many decades, but I know quite a number of Sherlock Holmes' fans want one. Not long ago, I talked with a couple of people at Laudisi Enterprises about bringing this venerated pipe back into production, and they said they would eventually produce the 4AB again. If any of you are interested in having one for yourself, I'm here to suggest you e-mail the company and request that they bring back the 4AB. I believe the more requests they get, the more interested they will be in making this happen.

Kind of, not really. Look at a few screen captures of Rathbone smoking the pipe. I'd post one, but I'm not having much luck with that today.

I spoke with Shane Ireland and Sykes Wilford this weekend. They are considering bringing back the 4AB and the XL155 Bulldog, which Nigel Bruce smoked in two SH movies. The 4AB may be a difficult pipe to match from what I am hearing; the stem seems to be the hold up. We probably won't see them until next year, but a little encouragement sure wouldn't hurt if you fellas are inclined to reach out and let them know you want these models brought back.

The Rathbone on the SH series that Peterson did is a hybrid of the "Swan" that Rathbone smoked in the 20 Century Fox movies, and the 4AB in the Universal movies. Why the hell they did that is beyond me, but I always thought it was a dumb idea. I'm trying to get them to put the right Rathbone pipe in production because finding a pre-republic 4AB is worse than looking for a needle in a haystack, and I have been looking for one for years with no luck.

I have a Pete 4s and believe it would look better with a tapered stem as would all my deluxe system pipes. the Rathbone, though, is a good looking pipe in its own respect though.

Wilke #515. I smoke a lot of it. Here's my review of it:
The lightly spicy, richly sweet Jamaican rum topping, which is moderate in strength, sublimates the tobaccos quite a bit, though it doesn’t totally drown them out. I suspect a touch of coumarin is present, too, which would account for the floral note. The flue cured Virginia is hay-like, grassy, and lightly citrusy with a touch of dark fruit. It takes a bare lead over the sugary black cavendish. The strength is a couple of steps past the mild mark, while the taste is just past the center of mild to medium. Has a very mild nic-hit. Won't bite or get harsh, and has no rough edges. Well blended, it burns cool and clean at a moderate pace with a very consistent flavor from start to finish. Leaves almost no moisture in the bowl, and requires an average number of relights. The lightly lingering after taste and room note are sweet and slightly floral. That floralness distinguishes it from the P&W Rumcake, which used this blend as starting point, and adds a nice complexity here. It's a tad more noticeable when dry. An all day smoke, one which was favored by actor Basil Rathbone.
