New biography of William Golding out now, he of Lord of the Flies and an interesting human figure. One of my favorite books to teach (though the film adaptations were never my cup of tea); should be a teriffic read.

As you will note from the picture, Mr. Golding is also a Brother, looking as we all should, on a small sailboat, pipe securely in his jaw.

Lord of the Flies was to Golding what A Clockwork Orange was to Anthony Burgess. Many don't realize that he also wrote other fine and interesting books: The Inheritors, Darkness Visible, Rites of Passage, The Spire, and The Paper Men (a very funny book), and others.
