A gentleman at the cigar shop wanted me to make a cigar box lamp for him. So I made it to his description....with a secret compartment in the bottom..

That's terrific. I love that hidden place and what is kept in it. Nice.

Where I live, it’s the law unfortunately. Kind of defeats the purpose of having quick, discreet access. Some sort of a slide latch or a magnetic release wouldn’t be too obstructing, provided one knew the trick to open it.

Theres a guy at the flea mall that makes wooden gun cabinets disguised at a wall shelf. He uses some sort of magnetic lock on it. It won't open until you put a magnet over a certain spot. The magnet is disquised as something that sits on the shelf. So if you needed it in a hurry you just grab the knick-knack off the shelf, place it over the spot, and then just lift the hidden door up. Safe for the kids and I reckon it would meet the NC law requirements as "secure" from children.

Nice lamp and storage compartment. I like the content of the compartment too.

My pocket keeps mine secure from children.
