Theres a guy at the flea mall that makes wooden gun cabinets disguised at a wall shelf. He uses some sort of magnetic lock on it. It won't open until you put a magnet over a certain spot. The magnet is disquised as something that sits on the shelf. So if you needed it in a hurry you just grab the knick-knack off the shelf, place it over the spot, and then just lift the hidden door up. Safe for the kids and I reckon it would meet the NC law requirements as "secure" from children.
