Sounds logical, but that isn't how it tends to work. Compare the pro version of the song I posted with the home version that started it all:

There are quite a few vocal differences in addition the the "noise around her." Some of it is recording/technical stuff, and some is vocal technique stuff that producers suggest. Phrasing weight, pacing, where to breathe, etc. The combined net result is dramatically different.
