I purchased this estate Castello pipe, and need help with dating it. Most of the dating resources I find are inconclusive, and they vary from person to person as far as a solid way to date the pipes, which I must conclude is more Castello's fault than the pipe smoking community. Rhinestones, castles, numbers, etc. Good lord if I ever become a pipe maker, I will be stamping my pipes with the date. Period. Although a good mystery is always fun.
Anyway, if you have any input, do tell.
This is the pipe. It's a Castello Sea Rock Briar, bent pot (as best I can tell) with a sterling silver band at the shank/stem seam.
Here is the nomenclature:
View of "MADE IN CANTU ITALY"
View of "CARLO SCOTTI" seal
View of size marker "GG" and what looks like "L0" or "LO" or maybe even "L9". I know the GG refers to the Extra Large size of the pipe, but I can't figure out this last part (the L0). I thought it might be a code for a specific retailer, as I know Castello did this on some of their pipes but am not sure.
