Well, my wife and I were gifted a trip to the Holy Land for Christmas from her parents, so we told ourselves we wouldn't be vacationing anytime soon. However, a group of Alli's students who are graduating have been raising money for a senior trip to the coast, a place where Alli and I have never been. They were in need of chaperones and apparently we were the only couple willing to do so, which may or may not be a mistake (15 kids, 11 of which are guys). With that said, the funds raised throughout the year covered the kids as well as the chaperones, so again we found ourselves doing a vacation-like trip with little to no cost to us.
Below are a few pictures I snapped on our arrival to Diani Beach in Kwale, Kenya, which is just south of Mombasa. Enjoy the view of the Indian Ocean, the beach, and part of the reef.
I'll post more as I can.
The man in this photo is a "beach boy," a young man who hounds tourists for money and sketch snorkeling dives.
View from the beach resort.
Second view.
Making our way onto the reef (you can walk out about 100 feet into the water on top of the reef).
Standing on the reef.
Sunset over the beach from the reef.
Another panoramic view.
The only real sad part about this all is not being able to bring my pipe (kids being present and all apparently was a no-go for pipe paraphernalia).
Enjoy!
