I know a lot of us browse eBay for estate pipes all the time. Recently there has been a string of fraudulent listings for nice pipes at prices too good to be true. This has come up on other pipe forums, but I haven't seen it mentioned here yet and I thought I would spread the word.

Here's a link to a discussion on another board that lists the red flags:

Please be careful out there when using eBay!

Thanks for the heads-up Jesse. I don't play on the bay but lots of folks do, so this is helpful info.

Cheers,

You mean to tell me that the J. Alan Calabash that was available for $29 as a "buy it now" option wasn't legit?

The dead giveaway is a properly worded English listing with a Chinese ship-from address.....

This isn't limited to tobacciana. I see this in collectible, vintage clothing. I've seen it with camping gear, like a Kelty Spectra backpack that should sell for $400-1000, depending on the model (yes, people collect outdoor gear and not to use), listed as BIN $30. I would guess many collectible genres are getting hit with this predatory crap.
