So the FDA is of the opinion that pipe tobacco is an ominous threat to our health, but artficial sugars -- like aspartame, which has been linked to alzheimers disease and other neurological disorders -- is on the agency's "generally safe" list. Everyone I see smoking a pipe is clearly a full-grown, aelf-directed adult with mileage on the odometer. But aspartame -- listed as safe by the FDA -- is widely used in chewing gum and other products overtly marketed to children. If you want to see what a great job lobbyists, processed food companies -- in collusion with the FDA -- are doing to make a fortune and screw the American public, learn to read ingredient and nutrition labels. Pipe tobacco, indeed. What elephant?
