starting July 1st smoking devices are now illegal in Florida. Anyone found in possession of a pipe two times (even if it has never been used) becomes a third degree felon. In Florida, this means you are permanently banned from voting. For a f***ing pipe.

With one swoop of the pen Rick Scott may have put thousands of companies out of business, and their employees looking for jobs. They also need to offload their entire inventory before July 1st when the bill goes into effect (yea, only a couple weeks from now).

The bill I'm talking about is FL HB49 / SB1140

See for yourself. Governer's Action: Approved

From the final report:
Establishes the following five drug paraphernalia crimes:
1. use or possession of drug paraphernalia
2. manufacture or delivery of drug paraphernalia
3. delivery of drug paraphernalia to a minor
4. transportation of drug paraphernalia
5. advertisement of drug paraphernalia

I seriously doubt that they'll apply that to briar pipes. Unless, of course, you smoke FVF in a glass pipe. Drug paraphenelia is pretty obvious.

A Soviet joke comes to mind where there's a mass-exodus of horses out of Russia. Asked at the border why they're fleeing, they say, "The KGB is arresting all the camels."

The border guards respond, "Why should you worry ?  You're not camels !"

The horses say, "Try explaining that to the KGB !"

Briar looks OK...for now.

But, they banned stone; so all you proud Floridians need to send me your Meers.   I promise I will enjoy them for you.

Interesting what stupid crap a guy will use to beef up a Presidential image.  (Rick...buddy...you really lost the California vote you never had. Bet you could've use Colorado though.)

so stupid. I grew up in the 70s, so yeah I smoked dope and used drugs recreationally just like just about everyone else back then. I grew out of it. Haven't smoked any weed for like 20 years, and don't have any interest in doing so ever again.

However

the drug war is a sham. There is too much money at stake keeping it illegal. We'll never see decriminalization because of this. Frankly I would much rather have you smoke a joint and stay home playing Playstation than drink yourself blind and aim your car at my family. Marijuana is pretty benign, especially compared to legal alcohol, who many, many people can't control themselves with.

Legalize it, make some tax revenue off it, save all that stupid drug war expense and let people spark up. All we're doing with the drug war is lining the pockets of corrupt men. That's what I say anyway.

Well it's been legalized here in WA state and CO. Right now the state liquor control board is in the process of setting up the rules and guidelines prior to implementing the sales for recreational use. And it's been available to medical marijuana users for a while anyway.

Like you sis, I grew out of it too back in my 20's. No interest nowadays.

Cheers,

RR

Virginia is for Lovers
Florida is for Felons

:lol!:

Sheesha is fairly popular around here; the local Indian restaurant will even serve it to you (on the patio). I guess you couldn't smoke it in Florida, eh?

Hmm, now I can't add a comment below a quote...

I was going to add that I'm sure Maryland isn't far behind those states.  Our Governor is also not a big fan of personal rights.

Hmmm... What's an easy way to get new prisoners into the shiny new privatized prisons Rick Scott's financial backer GEO builds in Florida?

GEO Corp is the nation's 2nd largest private prison operation.

Now, among about a dozen bills signed last week by Gov. Rick Scott was the “bong ban” bill, which prohibits the sale of metal, wooden, acrylic, glass, stone, plastic, or ceramic smoking pipes, chillums or bongs.

Second offense is a felony....

Brilliant! Thousands of slow moving, easy to catch, docile prisoners! You can smell em' from a mile away or when you drive behind them. Easy money!

I see no conflict of interest. Seems legit.

To fall prey to the parafanalia laws a smoking device must be for exclusive use - rolling papers are ok, rolling papers with wires in them are not.  Meerschaum is ok, in the form of a tobacco pipe, a small stone one hitter is not.

The determination is a bit like pornography - the court will have to prove its drug parafanalia to convict - and the standards by which they judge are fairly well laid.

That having been said, my state is planning on voting on legalizing pot next year and Florida appears to be a bit tight arsed on the subject...

This is the funny part. I once saw a kid make a pipe out of an apple. Like, the fruit...I was impressed by his resourcefulness, to say the least.

With things like this I just see a rabbit hole. Could you imagine some kid explaining to another inmate (thief, rapist etc) that he's there because he got busted with an apple?

This thread reminds me of a sarcastic post I made in 2010, contrasting the rights of those carrying firearms (which I fully agree is a right in the U.S.) versus those carrying pipes.

"29 February 2010
Santa Arnoldi, California
Veritas News Bureau

This evening at 8:21 PM, Professor Ashton Dunhill became the first person arrested under the “no carry” law recently enacted by the California Legislature. Professor Dunhill was taken down by a heavily armed SWAT team as he entered a local Charbucks store to purchase his customary evening cappuccino. As witnesses reported, a bystander on the street had called 911 when he saw Professor Dunhill emerge from his car with a smoking pipe (albeit unlit) inserted into a pipe holster on his belt. As proscribed by the California law (the so-called “no carry” law), any person caught carrying a pipe in a belt holster in a public place would be subject to immediate arrest, a mandatory fine of $ 10,000 and a 90 day jail sentence in solitary confinement. As soon as the SWAT team saw Professor Dunhill enter the Charbucks they moved into action. Women were heard to be screaming, and children crying, as one of the patrons in Charbucks, Mr. Potbelly Courouge screamed, “PIPE ! PIPE! PIPE!”.

Mr. Courouge, in an exclusive interview with the Veritas News Bureau, expressed pleasure in helping to “take down one of those pipe nuts”. Mr. Courouge was proudly wearing twin 44 magnum pistols in a leather belt and holsters while in the Charbucks, benefiting from California law and a recent decision by the well-known coffee chain that allows patrons to openly carry firearms in their shops. Professor Dunhill is expected to be arraigned in Superior Court tomorrow at 10:00 AM. He is reportedly married, has three children, and is a local youth organization volunteer.

Santa Arnoldi College, Professor Dunhill’s employer, also issued a statement: “ We are disgusted by Professor Dunhill’s behavior, and he is herby terminated from his position with the College.” In a separate announcement, Santa Arnoldi College indicated that in order to comply with a recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling, it would restrict students from carrying more than three firearms at any one time while on the College campus.
