Being it is not the intention to compete with existing forums should there be any pipe related forums at all? We could only have sections that directly relate to content on this site. Such as scheduling weekly chats in the Calender for example? Or do you think it is completely fine to have them being there has been availability issues with other forums?

I say lets have the standard fare of forums. There are several forums out there on the world wide web for the pipe and tobacco enthusiast and each board has developed it's own flavor based on moderation, personalities and content offered up. These forums are not redundant, many feel at home at some and not at others, many enjoy more than one. I say follow the lead of other forums and just see how things play out. There would be more likelihood of participation if several forum categories were offered here, making it easier for folks to find a spot to post their thoughts.

Is it possible to have a spot on the home page that shows whether or not there are any members in the chat room? If there were, then folks would not have to leave the forums and go into the chat mode just to see, may aid in more chat activity if you could see who's chatting (or simply if anyones chatting).

At the bottom of the page, under who's online, is a spot that lists who is in the Chatbox. I couldn't figure out how to move it to the top of the page though. Maybe when I get more familiar with the back end.

It's nice, and a relief, to have an alternative to KCBB. Maybe it'll get pz off of his pz. I don't mind a sign in procedure if it self eliminates porn bots.

That was kind of my thoughts TJ. Uptime was starting to really bother me as well. I hate typing a response for fifteen minutes only to have the board go down after I hit submit.

Now I don't have much control over the uptime of this place but I'm betting it's going to be quite a bit better.

Also we can make any changes we want here. I'd like to recruit a few people that want to be administrators as well so there is always someone that can be contacted with problems or corrections that need to be made.

Good job Jason,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,of course.

I notified PSPR&R.

Any chance you can "minimize" Kramers picture?

As soon as KNOX gets back up (?) it will be my pleasure to announce our new Board,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,unless you want to.

I would gladly offer my services as admistrator/moderator, but, as you know, I am still struggling with Microsoft and dial-up. Be glad to feed tobacco to the help.

It is inevitable (heading into an election year)... should there be a "political" forum. I know I'd like a sports forum, but I found a place to discuss my sports interest.

Actually, a "forum" that I think might be helpful under tobacco is a "tobacco review forum". Some people do excellent jobs in this area and they might get lost in general discussions about tobaccos. I would find that helpful. The advantage of this over the TR site is that all would have a opportunity to ask questions or expand upon comments... it would be more fluid in that sense.

I figured that one was a no-brainer and added it right off... maybe Vito should be the moderator over that one.

My thought would be any off topic (non pipe related) could be discussed in the General forum but I could see the benefit of having something like Puffs suggested. Such as it could be easily avoided if one was so inclined. What say the board?

The first rule of boards/forums/newsgroups is, threads wander :!: That's what makes them so interesting. There is always a search function for those looking for specific info. You try to keep things reasonably grouped. But don't have a stroke if a thread "Jumps the Shark". :D

Oh for sure Carlos and I'm the one of the worst wanderers. In fact it doesn't bother me in the least. My thought on the possibility of having forums that were specifically titled politics for example would be that those that really don't want to wade through the General section to avoid such things would be spared. I personally think all is fair as long as it's respectful.

The only argument I can think of in favor of a general board "split" is to anticipate future complaints about the apparent difficulty of avoiding having what isn't wanted touching one's eyeballs. I've always been of the, "Don't click the thread if you find the subject upsetting/foolish/irritating" school, but there definitely ARE those who disagree.

So. Would categories broken out not by SUBJECT, but by its EMOTIONAL POTENTIAL address that situation more cleanly?

Subjects such as sex, drugs, Rock-n-Roll, religion, police brutality and so forth would go in the least liable-to-incite group, for example; while the Peterson vs. Dunhill debate Part MMXXXVIII, and vulcanite vs. Lucite would be started in the high risk one.
