Good evening gents

I should start saying English is not my mother language and you will have to bear with my incapacity to make my self clear sometimes no matter how hard I try.
I am a 56 old timer born and rise in Caracas Venezuela (another world due to the situation we are struggling trough) although I got my first pipe 40 years ago I have been in and out since then with long periods of inactivity, thinking about why, I may guess, could be because smoking pipes here is a uncommon habit so share and discuss with others is not an easy task, but technology is here to help and so here I am in a world wide community pursuing the same goal, enjoy smoking pipes.
I would also like to ask if is against the rules being subscribe to more than one pipe smokers online forum and post a similar thread at the same time (just to be aware off).
Retired former Planning specialist, I work now repairing mountain bicycles suspensions and related things after discovery that fix things is an innate ability, many hobbies and interests but a few ones among them worth to be mentioned like mountain biking, motorcycling, coffee and vintage stuff of any kind.
I decide resuming the habit getting a new to me pipe to celebrate forty years of owning my Dr. Grabow Duke Blue Spade that was given to me as a birthday present back then.
Looking for the right pipe, one that talks to me, I run over a few interesting options according to my online research, but in the impossibility to choose I end up with five winners.
I also found that trough all this years I have been doing things in an incorrect way and I hope with the help of the wisdom of this community I can restart with the right foot.
Thank you all to take the time to read this post and I would like to thanks in advance for helping me to improve my knowledge on smoking pipes matters.

Roberto

Welcome to the forum!

Many of us belong to more than one pipe smoking forum. I am an admin at another. This is no problem at all. You will find they all have different "personalities."

I have always considered it "bad form" to post the same thing on multiple forums. Sometimes a forum will have a policy of only original content that is not posted elsewhere. This one does not.

I would not worry so much about the incorrect/correct way. You do what works for you, and that makes it right. I am not so compulsive about cleaning as some people. I enjoy pipe smoking a lot and have learned what works for me. There will be some expert on Youtube or something who would sneer at my (lack of) packing technique for example, but I codger scoop and have been for 40+ years. Why mess with a good thing?

I was a bicycle mechanic for 7 years during grad school and beyond. There is a very satisfactory quality to being able to fix something and see the fruits of your labor. Most of what we do in life, we never really see the results. We do our jobs, but the long-term impact may not really be seen for 20 years or so. By then we have moved on or been forgotten. Rebuilding a bottom bracket is not that way.

Anyway - I am glad you are here and hope you find the forum helpful, entertaining, etc. You should post some pictures of your pipes so we can all be appropriately jealous and search Ebay for something similar.

Welcome to the group. There’s tons of great info here to read and not just on pipe and tobaccos.

Thank you all to take a time for welcome me to BoB.
If I have to measure my expectations about been part of this community using the previous post as an example, it will be a sweet ride for sure.
Working of my pipes pictures so I will share them soon
