(...we join The Raj Show, now in progress, with host Raj Plenestopreen and cleavage host Enema Squee...)

Raj: Happy of Bastidge Day, everyboddy!

Enema: ...uh, Raj...I don't think you've got it exactly right...

Raj: What?! Why you are tell to me such thing?

Enema: Well, July 14 is supposed to be a celebration of Bastille Day...you know — the French Revolution...

Raj: Noboddy told to me of this. When this happen, Bastidge Day?

Enema: No...it's Bastille Day, and it happened in 1789.

Raj: So I guess maybe why that is noboddy telling me, huh?

Enema: Well, you weren't around when it happened, so yeah...I guess that explains it.

Raj: But what is this thing, "Bastille".

Enema: It was an old fortress that they used as a prison — a symbol of the king's power and authority. There was a rebellion, and they stormed the Bastille, and then Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité turned into a blood bath called The Reign of Terror...you know, as if replacing one form of violence and injustice with another actually could have solved anything.

Raj: And these estupid Frenches...they are calling that "revolution"?

Enema: Well, I admit...it doesn't make any sense to me either.

Raj: So I was right anyway. Today should be call it Bastidge Day...for estupid bastidge from hell.

Enema: I think your accent lapsed for a second there. Don't you mean "estoopid bastoord"?

Raj: OK yeah...that too.

Enema: And now, this word from Hogtitz Brewery...makers of brewskis of indeterminate repute since sometime last month...

That's rather amusing but if there is a message in there it went over my head. Not an unusual occurrence. :)

AJ: Well, amusing was the main point from my perspective...by which I mean, my motivation for writing such bilge is self-amusement while I'm waiting for the pain meds to take effect. (PeeBee knows what I mean.) If anyone else is mutant enough to be amused by it, then mission accomplished.

I guess there was a bit of rationality that managed to creep in there. I'm referring to the part about how there's nothing revolutionary about substituting one form of tyranny for another—however dressed up in "democratic" trimmings it might be.

Despite the fervor the game of political musical chairs inspires in election years, where folks get all hot and moist about changing the players in a system that itself remains stubbornly immune to any genuine change for the better, it has never provided any fundamental solutions to societal problems. That has pretty much been the pattern for most of history.

I believe The Who nailed it...

Anyhow, glad you were amused, amigo.

Sorry you're having to deal with pain. I totally understand what it's like.

That part was obvious but I thought there may have been something else that I wan't getting. It often happens that way.

Anyway thanks for the grin on my face. A little humor helps when you hurt. :)

Yup, pretty much read like a Psilocybin political rant to me. Violence has always been the last refuge of the incompetent..... Revolution. It means 'cyclic', going around and around.

A yes, the day they freed the Marquis and 4 others, while murdering the guards. A fine day all around.

Violence begets violence, Ignorance begets ignorance, and American Politics vigorously nurtures them both by causing a vicious feeding frenzy in the fields of indifference.

Merciful peace wished upon those suffering in France tonight.

As for Bastige Day..
That Bastige Bernie hated the Queen last month, he vilified her to the point that Hitler and Stalin sounded like better choices. Now this month that Bastige Bernie is bowing to the Queen while shouting "Long Live The Queen"... I don't know which one changed but it must have been one of them for such a drastic difference in tone.
Eff it, to commemorate, I'm going to eat Doritos™, the Official Sponser of Bastige Day, and walk around with my arms in the air like a French Soldier.

That is SO funny and it is also SO true! :lol!: :lol!: :lol!:

So the little Marxist sold out. I wonder what they gave him to serve up the heads of his Loyal Followers on a plate to Her Bitchness Highness Lowness (...there). I wonder what they think about his commitment to "principles" now.

What a bloody fiasco. I cannot comprehend how anyone can take any part of such a thoroughly corrupt and rotten process seriously.

Folk are brainwashed.. It's really not their fault. I mean yes on a certain level it is but in reality when you step outside of the nice little lines they draw you are severely punished. Do you go cast your vote for one of the two offered up? If you do you endorse it, if you don't you are told you are unpatriotic...unless of course you vote for a non-standard politician. In that case the winner considers you in poor taste and the loser tells you that it's your fault the other guy won... And then everyone happily pays their 'fair share' and enjoys their public officials, until next November.

No one ever stops to ask, Why do I need someone to make my choices for me?

What exactly is your fair share of my life? (which is all currency actually is, a representative of your lifespan, but that's another post).

Or even if both of the prior answers tilt towards the system: What does a nice gal from Illinios know about what the citizenry of Topeka Kansas wants/needs and how best to go about securing those communal goals?

The whole thing is, and always has been, rigged.
All roads are toll roads, just some have booths to collect and some take it straight out of your pay whether you drive on them or not.

There it is, right there. As far as I can tell, the question is completely off most folks' radar. It's not a question they even consider. It never occurs to them that it should be any other way.

Nothing will change...no, wait — nothing can change until enough people are willing to take that question seriously. It's as simple as that.

Change is not on the horizon due to the indifference of the masses. When all of our freedoms have been taken away, and people live as mindless slaves for a few generations maybe, just maybe a true honest leader will rise from the ranks and lead a revolution to end the tyranny. Not much chance of it happening in this century I'm afraid. I'm so sorry for what my grandchildren will have to suffer. :(

AJ: There's no question that the longer the current political system holds sway over our lives, the more rapidly our liberty will diminish. But it's an exercise in futility to talk about "revolution" unless you know what you're going to replace the current madness with, and that it won't just start the cycle all over again.

PeeBee is right onto it. Forget about "leaders". It’s a broken idea, and it's time we just moved on. Real leadership comes from principles. The Declaration of Independence is loaded with them. The Constitution ignores most of them, and stomps the rest of them into the dirt. (Caveat: BTW, I know the Constitution isn’t perfect, but it’s better than what we’ve got now. ;) )

Anyhow, there's the problem. The system itself is not anchored to rational and moral principles. I don’t want or expect some political savior to step up and provide that for everyone. I don't need others making my choices for me...especially at gunpoint, jailpoint, fraudpoint, or any other kind of coercion, or threat thereof.

I'm not looking for the kind of revolution that overthrows, supplants, or otherwise makes huge changes overnight. Besides, it won't work. There's too much resistance from the status quo...and that includes me. I don't want my life turned upside down, and I suspect most folks feel the same way.

And it isn't even necessary. The kind of revolution we need isn't a threat to anybody. It would benefit everybody. And there’s no need to wait until the current system makes everything so bad that the masses are willing to follow the first demagogue that comes along promising Hope and Change.

That’s how Herr Hitler got himself elected by a huge majority, you know...one that his present-day equivalents can only dream about. And the sanction of the majority didn’t make him right either.

Real revolution is not political. It’s an idea; a change in perspective; a realization that old, unquestioned assumptions about the way things “have to be” are broken. In this case, one of those assumptions is that any kind of coercive process—even a “democratic” one—is the answer to what ails human civilization.

Vito I can agree with all you wrote but there is a better form of government that was laid out in a Science Fiction book back in the 50's. The book title is Starship Troopers. The story is pure science fiction but the author used this format to describe a system that has an appeal to me and it has very strong basic fundamentals of common sense. I don't know if you're familiar with this book and it has been made into a couple of movies which ignore what we're talking about. One has to read the book to understand what is be presented as a working government that in my mind is superior to what we have today. Like you I don't like anyone making choices for me about anything but in a society where laws have to be made to maintain order what I found in Starship Troopers seems to be a logical solution. Of course today this isn't about to come to pass. Like you said no one wants an upheaval in their life and for the most part this Nation isn't about to attempt any change because any beneficial change will remove those from their thrones and deny them our hard earned wages. It was just reported that our present esteemed leader has by executive order authorized the use of our military in policing the public. Our Military is now authorized to use deadly force on their fellow citizens. No way will our established government allow any change that threatens to remove them from power by any means. I'm afraid we're in deeper do-do than most realize. I wish I could remember the details laid out in the book but I'd have to re-read it in order to give you an outline. Hopefully if your interested you'll pick up a copy and read it for yourself if you haven't already done so. :)

Soooooooooooo, has martial law been declared? I mean, I understand the militarization of our police, they gotta keep up with the Jones's. (Not to mention, how can you beat getting an armoured Hummer for the price of shipping it home?) I spend the day in the forest, come out and find out about the truck accident in France, Turkish military patriots are trying to take their country back from the brink of Western Destruction, and now you tell me our boys in uniform are poised to 'keep us in check'?

sigh

This is starting to look like Rubber Room talk to me. Anybody happen to see who was on Phil Donahue? As long as I wasn't the 'Baby Daddy' I'm good. OK, I'm off to tuck my head back in the sand.....................

I'm pretty sure that Nice, France wasn't an accident. Why you'd call it such is a head scratcher.

As for Turkey boiling over. Wasn't Turkey boiling over a big part of BritEx? It seems to me all the progressives were telling us last week that it was impossible and just scare tactics used by the Rationals, I mean Conservatives

As for Martial Law, The executive order being commented on was signed into orderness on July 1st and is titled "UNITED STATES POLICY ON PRE- AND POST-STRIKE MEASURES TO ADDRESS CIVILIAN CASUALTIES IN U.S. OPERATIONS INVOLVING THE USE OF FORCE" make of it what you will. (I understand it to be in regard to Strikes outside of the US Borders, but I'm just an ex-truck driver that mods a pipe board)

And finally, why in your vast woodsy wisdom do you deem this thread Rubber Room material?

Well PB, I was told all of this by the mail carrier when she dropped of a package. "Did you hear?" kind of thing. She said a semi crashed into a crowd on the waterfront. I'm reading more details on news feeds now....

As far as Turkey, it almost sounds like what happened in Egypt a while back. I'm still not sure what came of that..............

To address the Matrial Law thingy, to quote AJ, "It was just reported that our present esteemed leader has by executive order authorized the use of our military in policing the public. Our Military is now authorized to use deadly force on their fellow citizens. No way will our established government allow any change that threatens to remove them from power by any means. I'm afraid we're in deeper do-do than most realize." Military being authorized to harm civilians of their own persuasion and policing the public sounds like martial law to my ears.

Finally, I have seen less get sent to the asylum.
