I noticed that I could see through the colored stem of an old Castello (late sixties-early seventies?), so I held it up to the kitchen light and snapped a photo. And there it is, that pesky restricted airway in the stem that blights some vintage Cantu pipes. Although sometimes they smoke just fine, it does take a little adjustment if you're more accustomed to the wide open style of later pipes.

I came across a couple of those and just cut myself a nice V slot into the button with some micro files. Worked great. Can't explain why they would make it out of the factory like that.

That's an interesting picture. I've had a couple of Castellos opened up and now I know why it had to be done. Thanks.

That's what happens when you ram the drill into acryllic instead of
going by little stages & clearing the bit between them. Hurry-up work.
