I noticed that the last time a hobby thread was started/replied on was 2013 (or at least a thread named 'what are your hobbies?'), and so I was curious - what are your other hobbies?

Other than dabbling in fountain pens, collecting vinyl records, and building random electronics with the use of Arduino chips and Raspberry Pi's, I build Gundam models, and now that I'm in the beautiful PNW, I try to spend a lot of time outside learning about the flora and fauna. What about you folks?

When I was young it was fishing tackle and postage stamps. Somewhere along the line I stopped fishing. Once you fish saltwater, freshwater just isn't the same. Postage stamps quit in the early 1980's when I realized they were just printing money for themselves as I bought pretty little pictures just to put in a book with other pretty pictures. Audio equipment (mostly low end), couple of yards of vinyl. Pipes since my late teens to early 60's. Then I quit cigs (an addiction not a hobby) and just sort stopped smoking pipes too. Of course I've got a couple of hundred them and 50 pounds of tobacco. Recently got back into guns and shooting at a range. Presently stockpiling ammo as I have no confidence in the political world for the next eight years. Hopefully I won't have to worry about it too much as I do not really want to live past my biblical three score and ten. here ya go - more info than you wanted!

Sounds good to me! Thanks, bosun1!

Now that I live in Oregon, I've been entertaining the idea of learning how to fish. Growing up in the desert, and then living at the edge of the plains, never had much of a reason to learn...

besides pipes and tobacco, I collect knives, I am passionate about reading and cinema, I have over 5000 movies and 50000 ebook, now, in autumn, winter, when the weather is cool, I build a model ship slowly...

but now, I spend long time with my daughter just three months ....its a really hobby for my and my passion

For me-

Music: listening, playing, composing, and recording. That pretty much consumes my time not spent at my day job.

Pipes & 'baccy (of course).

Reading: Been catching up on the books I never read but always wanted to.

I'll probably get back into fishing at some point in the future. Always wanted to learn how to fly fish. Did a fair amount of fishing when I was a much younger man, mostly drowning worms.

Cheers,

RR

Hobbies hmm, I too use to enjoy shooting and collecting firearms but, my disability and pocket book doesn't allow it much anymore. I've collected just about everything one can collect and still collect pipes now and then when I can afford it.
I enjoy making pipes most the time but, I don't know if you can say it's really a hobby because I don't keep many of them.
It does keep my hands and mind busy and that's a good thing besides also giving me a little pocket money.
I'd like to get back into model railroading again, wish I hadn't sold everything off about ten years ago.

I seem to be too busy for hobbies. But I play as often as I can. I try to enjoy everything I do, from the frivolous lighthearted poetry to the dark macabre art work. Flyfishing is a hobby though, I guess. Studying and collecting philosophical essays, comparing doctrines, that's an interest. I dunno, probably need to come up with something interesting for a hobby soon I guess......

Gosh, that's a toughy. Trouble is, I find too many things interesting.

If pushed, I suppose it would look something like this (and in no particular order)...

Reading; adventure journals, National Geographic, factual accounts of the Operations in World War II.
Outdoor adventure activities and adventure travel.
Scouting.
The natural world.
Cycling.
Playing the guitar.
Fly fishing.
Aero modelling.
Tropical fish.
Keeping fit.
Geo caching.
Listening to the World Service.
Oh, and, errr, smoking a pipe.

I rarely watch TV but do enjoy a good film now and again. Something like the Great Escape is just perfect.

Recon that's about it, though I'm sure that once I've posted this I'll think of something else!

Aside from pipe smoking, I like PlayStation sometimes. And cap and ball firearms. Got a few of those now and enjoy shooting, tinkering with and maintaining them. Also I have sons, so I have become something of an instructor of the manly arts haha

^^^HAH! I figured you were something of a Renaissance man, Stick. That confirms it.

Science and music are a big part of my life, and the number of things touched by those subjects sweep a whole lotta stuff into my active interests. Science pretty well covers most of the universe, so 'nuff said there.

Today, music drives massive involvement in all manner of hardware and software. I'm a composer, musician, and producer...and I do my own engineering. I worked pro audio for years, and I still love great sounding gizmos. I own, maintain, and use audio gear that spans many decades of technology. My oldest mic is a 1932 RCA Model 44 ribbon mic.

Right now I'm doing a project digitizing over 4,000 hours of analog audio tape, using a Teac TCA-43, which I have maintained in perfect working condition since I bought it (1972). I just bought a Teac A-2340SX to set up a second workstation. I love keeping that stuff working. Sure...it's part of my work, but it's still a labor of love. The fact that I'm lucky enough to get paid for it doesn't make it any less a passionate pursuit.

Pipes and weed, of course, are an ongoing passion. I've done a lot of research and experimentation in the subject of tobacco aging. I've been a piper since 1964.

I'm a voracious reader and researcher in many subjects. My core subject (physics) has led me into deep investigation of the structure and stability of civilization, and the nature of complex systems...including human behavior, both individual and in societal interaction.

I'm a student of history. I have a passion for uncovering the truth...which is usually much stranger than the fiction known as the "official" version, which is often a pantload.

I'm an unreconstructed guitar addict. I don't collect 'em; I play them. I'm hopelessly infatuated with the sound of twang. Ditto for tube amps, which I maintain and mod in my "spare time". I'm about to do a complete overhaul of a 1964 blonde Fender Tremolux.

I'm a husband and a Dad...not exactly a hobby, but I'm happily married, I love my kids, and I love spending time with my fambly more than just about anything else. Isn't that the same thing that attracts people to hobbies?

I relax by watching hurricane and tornado videos, and by watching my youngest daughter play video games (current favorites: Legend of Zelda series). I don't play them myself; playing them isn't relaxing. Watching her play them is relaxing.

I use to belong to a dojo (traditional Japanese karate). I still do kata for discipline. Got a black robe in Zen; meditation is chillage. Also, hiking and trail biking in the wilderness area behind our home, accompanied by my 85-pound long-haired German shepherd. Don't assume I'm unarmed.

I like beer, and I have a 400-bottle wine cellar, and it gets plenty of use. Why I'm not a blimp is one of life's mysteries.

I own my home, so I'm a plumber, painter, carpenter, electrician, mason, landscaper...and everything that goes along with The Joys of Home Ownership<img class="emojione" alt="™️" title=":tm:" title=":tm:" src="https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/emojione/assets/png/2122.png?v=2.2.7"/>.

That’s enough.

Vito, I think you and I would get on famously discussing the universe and everything within it. A pipe and shared 'baccy would be central to the discourse of course!

So far, all of these have been great!

Stick, Vito: I would mightily enjoy sitting in a room with you two, discussing the world and life over a few bowls and a couple of fingers of Scotch or a glass or two of wine.

williamcharles, picking locks sounds like an interesting hobby, to say the least!

Jevverrett - I can believe having kiddos would fill up most of your time, without a doubt. Good luck!

Come on in WB! I'll provide the Lagavulin, who's bringing the 'baccy?! First topic for discussion; fossil fuels and their relationship with the global mean surface temperature (GMST).

WarlockBob: My traveling days are pretty much over bro', thanx to some uncooperative vertebrae. But if you ever get to SoCal, some hang time could happen. Getting Stick in on the deal might be a bit tricky, though...you know, the difficulty of solving a three-body problem, and all that.  ;)

The good news is, there's nothing to keep us from BoBular fraternizing. (Thanks Jason!)

I'm a reader, a movie buff, and an unapologetic player of video games.

Edit: Also an enormous sports fan (note my signature).

I'd love to fly a sortie across your side of the Pond chaps, but not sure I could justify the expense purely for a yarn, a dram or two and a bowl of 'baccy!

The BoB it is!
