It would have been great to meet with use guys. I have never had that bad an experience at either BP store. I hope my leaving a sample of Avalon at the store didn't produced a policy change. I take outside tobac there all the time. Just take a chair at the counter and light up.

You must have had a strange "vibe" about you. :geek: , :drunken: , :geek: , :joker:

Tobacco Road is a place where I have been ignored each trip there. It seems very cirgar oriented, I understand that is where the money is and that all shops have that vibe.

You mean in Reno that you can walk up to the pipe display and handle the pipes? Can't wait for the "Big Show" See you at the TB.

Hey Lonered! Yeah, the Big Reno Show is about a month off, ain't it? Well, Tinder Box isn't exactly walk-up-and-handle-the-pipes... unless they know you. They don't care if you walk behind the counter and check stuff out, but reaching in the case with the high grades is generally frowned upon--I can understand why. Can't wait for a sit with ya here in Reno! :D

Maybe it was just the one guy at Briar Patch, but yeah, it was a bit...off for me. In the quest for pipes and the need I have to really check out a pipe in person before I buy it, I'll consider them, but I guess my Nevada was showing a little too much. Tobacco Road will get a visit from me soon enough.

Yes .August 17, 18, and 19th. I usually go for the Friday show. But, I am thinking of staying till Saturday this time. My plans are always "play it by ear". Will make plans as the time gets closer. :suspect:

What Reno show? Pipe show? They had one a few years ago that I attended but haven't heard of one since. Did I miss something?

I remember hearing something about this, but no specifics...

Maybe the problem was with you testing the draw on each one!

No, don't get excited guys... it's the Big Reno (gun) Show at the Grand Sierra Resort. There was once a pipe show here (maybe West Coast Show?) in Reno, but it wasn't well attended, and hasn't been back. If there were such a thing to happen here, you can bet I'd not shut up about it.

J Sosh, so I like to do the tongue-test in each bowl before I buy (gotta make sure the briar is sweet)--is that so wrong? :albino:

A semi annual gun show.

Make it each year with some Hams.

Aw, ya got me all worked up there.

I went to that Reno pipe show, I thought it was fairly well attended. I remember a lot of the carvers saying how they were encouraged by it. I assume it was just a matter of economics as to why there wasn't another - Pipe makers Emporium was the main sponsor, the show was in a casino, probably not enough $$ made by the main sponsor directly from the show to warrant funding it again. Couldn't have been cheap to rent that place.

I attended a show in Fresno before that, it was held in an old Grange hall or some sort of thing. Funky old place, it was perfect. I'd think that there would be plenty of opportunities to find accomodations that weren't too expensive, a casino isn't really necesary.

But, that's a local show looking at local attendance, like those east coast and midwest local shows we always read about. I guess it's just a matter of there not being enough interest here like there is there. Pity, really. The only show west of KC that I know of is the Vegas show, and I have absolutely no intention of going to Vegas. I'd sooner fly to Chicago or New York for one of those big shows.

Yeah, the kind of numbers a pipe show would draw probably made the Reno casino's accounting department (...you know, Guido, Tony, Nino...) frown a little. They want people willing to go broke on their machines, not briar. So any great deals offset by people assumed to be loose in the pocketbook probably made renting space for future events go through the roof when all was said and done.

Side note, probably going to fly to Vegas to go to the West Coast show. *shrug* November's a slow month for me.
