Fresh out of the tin/bag, you should taste it after it has been in the cellar for a while...
I jarred this up  last march
All I can say is the flavor has mellowed, and has sweetened up a good bit, much more complex pleasing flavor!

Glad I jarred this in small jars so the rest can keep aging

I wholeheartedly agree BC. The VA's in Penzance are quite sweet and improve well with age. Nice pics!

Tasty tasty tasty Harry, enjoy it in rude good health Buddy.   :sunny:

This aging pipe toebacky is new to me so I do have some questions...
will the jars I still have cellared keep getting more spots or does it only reach a certain stage?
and will it continue to keep aging or has it reached it's peak?

I have some cigars that I have had for a couple of years, I even have a few that are probably close to 10 years, and I don't see a blume on them, do cigars take longer?

Thanks!

Concerming cigars, they are much more affected by temperature and humidity than jarred pipe tobacco. I had a friend who sadly put a couple of boxes of Cuban Punch Lonsdales up in a closet for about 5 years and when he opened one up last week, they were dry and crispy and now he's trying to figure how to rehydrate them if possible. Cigars need a HUMIDOR to age in, mason jars are sufficient for pipe tobacco. Just my experience.

Yeah the cigars I keep in my humidor and watch the RH level constantly

My understanding is that the blume (or plume) comes from the oils in the wrapper. Some wrappers have more oil than others, so not all cigars will sport blume.

Cheers,

RR

so what can I call it? lets see a list of what we can call a male organ, as the word I used is in Websters dictionary and is taught in most all the public schools.

I just didn't feel expressing one's sexual arousal over tobacco appropriate in the general board area. Feel free to do that in the RR, though!  ;)

I had no idea MisterE was MisterModeratorE.

Congrats!

Back on topic: Enjoy BC!

Some of you might remember a few years back their was a big discussion about the white crystals/spores/mold/bloom/? (everyone had a different perspective on what it is)?  As I recall, it was Penzance that started the discussion, and several of us, myself included, had experienced the same thing with Penzance (back when it was moderately easy to find).

I've had a great case of the same on some Sam's Flake a while ago, and it freaked me out the first time I saw it.  I thought the pound I had jarred up a few years earlier had all gone bad.

Luckily, I know better now.

Natch

I have a jar of Penzance which I filled on 1st of May 2011 and the tobacco still looks the same, no "sugar spots" to be seen  :?:

That's pretty crazy because i have a few jars that I've had for about 8 months and they have the sugar crystals all over em. No idea.
