...why "reverse calabash"? I started to post this in ofafeather's thread about his new Ulrik but decided not to poach his thread. Some thoughts...
A traditional calabash (named for the gourds used, by the way, not for the shape or the system, although the term has come to describe traditional calabashes with "gourds" made of wood or other materials, and has even become a shape designation for some large, deeply bent pipes typically with a flared bowl) has a tobacco chamber within a larger chamber where the smoke is cooled (in this case, the gourd).
These so-called reverse calabashes do the same thing; the only difference being that the tobacco chamber is not contained within the cooling chamber, but instead the cooling chamber follows the tobacco chamber. If they're to be called calabashes at all (and shouldn't be, IMHO), shouldn't they be "in-line" calabashes, or "separate chamber" calabashes, or some such? Ah, sorry; too much time on my hands this morning :twisted: .
