Music, something I can relate to quite well

Hey, for those who don't know, I am Fred, relatively new to the forums, but making my way around where and when I can. Music, a topic close to my heart, this is something I can talk about.

I have been a musician for nearly 20 years now and have a very different taste in music than most people.

I have some music I listen to frequently that I would like to share with you guys and gals to help possibly expand your music knowledge and playlists.

First up is some great guitar players, Ewan Dobson is technically masterful and has very good songs, my favorite is My Nightmare. Ben Lapps is a talented little Canadian feller who plays very technically challenging music. Al Petteway is another great guitar player, his most famous song is Sligo Creek, which was featured as the theme to Ken Burns National Parks America's Best Idea documentary, which is a beautiful documentary and the soundtrack is played as my background music in my shop all the time.

More music that is played in my shop all the time includes The Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion soundtrack, a funk band called Lettuce, and my favorite Celtic band Gaelic Storm.

If you like Brass music, listen to Youngblood Brass Band. The tuba player Nat McIntosh is fantastic and one of my personal heroes.

I also am a Professional Band Instrument Repair Tech, so if you guys have any questions on keeping your Brass or Woodwind instruments up and running, feel free to ask.

Indeed. I'm guessing yu are a musician as well then? What is your main instrument?

I'm a trumpet player. I don't play anything else very well, though. I wouldn't mind picking up an electric bass at some point. Some of my buddies here want me to learn drums so I can play in their band. Sounds like fun, but I don't think my neighbors would dig having a beginning drummer next door.

Al Petteway is fantastic. I like some Ewan Dobson's stuff, too. I hadn't heard of Ben Lapps, but I just checked him out a bit on YouTube, and some of his stuff seems pretty interesting.

as far as misterE goes, Bass isn't too hard to learn. drums are much harder.

As far as I go, my main instrument is Sousaphone. I played as a concert tuba player for a while, about 14 years, but I really like the Sousaphone over the concert horns. My secondary instrument is the Bass guitar, which I have been playing for 10 years or so. However, I did have to learn to play each band instrument well enough to be able to properly playtest them once I have finished working on them.... Except bassoon, that instrument and its creator can go burn in hell, or my fireplace....

Far out. My roommate's father in school was Bill Barber. He turned down taking Bill Bell's teaching gig at Juliard because his high school music teacher job paid better.

Played sousaphone for 6 years in bands, entirely for giggles.

Looking at some of the guitar players / music you have listed, you might enjoy the group Pinback. The singer / guitar player, Rob Crow, is a tremendous musician and song writer. They have released many different albums to choose from, cannot go wrong with any choice.
