I've been watching the videos posting by this fine gentleman

I like this Guy!! Especially how he can smoke and talk at the same time. I get blown ash if I tried that. But I'm sure there are a few here that can do that. Love his accent and approach to pipe smoking.

He turned me into a different topic: Softy Bits

What I wanted to ask was about using Vinyl as a Softy Bit alternative.
- Softy bits are expensive and not as durable and also have that rubber taste, but they're easy to take off.
-The vinyl tubing also seen here

Seems like a nice alternative but does it impart a taste? And how easy is it to put on or take off if needed?

Works fine, no taste. Soften in hot water first, slick up the bit with saliva and it should push on fairly easily. I believe NW Pipesmoker, above, did a video on it quite a while ago.

I just gave this a try and it worked for some but not all. I used a 3/8 ID 1/2 OD clear. I had to struggle with a few but 10 of my pipes now have a softy for this clencher!

Tom is one of the classic youtube guys. Great, great channel.

Thanks for introducing me to this YouTube channel, BB. That guy is the real deal. There are lots of YouTube pipe videos, but many are not what I would call helpful.
