Stolen from the CPCC newsletter. Not word for word. Just tidbits. Everything is still a work in progress and subject to change. More detail and links as things firm up.

For 2016. Looks like that in addition to the "Pipe Making Seminar" That an "Advanced Seminar" may be offered starting next year. Using a lathe. Drilling your own block of wood. Creating a mortise, tenon, and other useful skills. One of the requirements is having taken the Basic Pipe Making Seminar in the past. If it becomes a reality, look for information right after the first of the year. Probably a bit more cost and limited in number.

For 2017. Probable new seminar having to do with "Pipe Refurbishing". Long way off and a lot of details to work out. It is about proper pipe cleaning, waxing, and reaming. How to use a buffer, etc.

Rumors of a tobacco blending seminar. Wait and see if someone gets roped into doing that one. Certainly someone highly qualified. Details if it comes to pass. A lot of busy people out there.

Speaking of busy people. Rumors of a new Pipe Show! Think about early August next year. Possibly near the Pocono Mountain region of Pennsylvania. A club and some well known folks are trying to bring this together. Don't want to steal anyone's thunder, so keep watching for announcements.

Some improvements at Chicago for next year. Porta Potties next to the smoking tent. Trying to solve a few problems. The resort will also control the Prom group that is there every year from taking over the Men's Rooms and converting them to extra Ladies Rooms. Oh, and remember to reserve rooms now, as they are tearing down a portion of the resort.

As I get links and see announcements, look for those in the Community in Action forum. I usually Sticky that stuff to keep it near the top.

Tom's doing a great job with these reports I'm an associate CPCC member and I really enjoy receiving them! I go back to days when shows were a lot more of a suit and tie crowd but as much as we need new blood in the hobby its sad that it comes with "new kids" peeing in the parking lot.

More news & rumors!  Another good reason to be a member of a club.  Club newsletters get the latest news.

If you are near Chicago on November 20th at 9am, there is a Dunhill "Trunk Show" at Iwan Reis & Co.  I do not know if this is an annual event as I have never been.  It is on a Friday.  The good folks at Iwan Reis usually make it easy for everyone to deal with credit card purchasing at the Chicago Show.  If you are nearby, stop in!

Looks like a "Tobacco Blending Seminar" is coming together for the Chicago Show.  Details to be finalized!  Probably on Thursday, April 28, 2016.  Most likely 9am - 4pm with a lunch, and a couple coffee breaks.  They are working on providing a lunch.  No word on cost yet.  (The entertainment value and knowledge will be worth it!  (IMO)  Limited in number, probably to a maximum of 32.  The instructor(s) do want to give as much one-on-one as they can.  Lot's of details to be worked out and planned.  Not to mention getting a lot of tobaccos possibly donated for the class.

There is several paragraphs in the newsletter about this class.  I think the schedule will firm up given time.  They want to teach as much as they can about touch, taste, and smell.  The use of scales and heat lamps.  Part of the cost will go to clay tasting pipes for each participant.  If they have the time, some competition between the participants.  This should be done in part of the tent, meaning it can be observed by those relaxing in the other area.  Very preliminary!

Sign up date and cost will be announced, and a final cut off date will exist.  I will pass on information as soon as I know it.  No.  I did not name the instructor here.  Members of CPCC will note that he is named in the newsletter.  Since the details are preliminary, I thought it best to wait for the actual announcement.  Minds could change, people could be added etc etc.

St Louis Show is back.  Saturday, Feburary 20, 2016.  St. Louis Gateway Dr. Wilson Carr Pipe Club Show.  It will be held at the Masonic Temple in Webster Groves, MO.  The primary hotel is the Best Western in Kirkwood/Sunset Hills.  Said to be smoker friendly, as is the show.  The rooms have balconies for smoking.  There is a "Show Rate" for early reservations of $114 per night until 3 weeks prior to the show.  Official flyers out after the first of the year.  The location is west, south-west of downtown, but not as far out as the I270 beltline.  A short distance off I44.

The rumors of a new show has more substance.  Still on for August 2016.  The Poconos area.  Nearby golf courses, a huge outlet mall, a casino.  Smoking may even be allowed on the show floor.  May be a pipe cleaning/buffing station.  Near I80.  Watch for official announcements.

For those of you who like to vacation out west in the summer.  There is a possible week-long pipe making seminar course taking shape.  Just imagine the details that could be covered in that length of time.  I will pass on more information as I know of it.

There is more information in the club newsletter.  But I suspect some of it will change given time.  So, keep your eyes peeled for official announcements and firm details.  -  Carlos

I didn't give a lot of details on that one. Hoping they will come out with an official announcement. For you guys close to the area, it should be a great time.

Updates and news. I kind of let this slide for a month. I was a bit preoccupied.

Several broken Pipes the past couple months. Apologizes if I missed someone.

Mark Drysdale - Member of the CPCC and a super nice fellow to past the time at the Chicago show with.
Peter Heeschen - Pipemaker
Sam learned - Pipemaker

All will be missed.

Most likely there will not be a New Orleans show in 2016, but may be one in 2017.

St Louis show date possibly will be Saturday, February 20th, 2016. But no one seems to have really heard anything firm.

Rooms at Pheasant Run are quickly selling for the Chicago Show.

All for now.

News items stolen from the CPCC Newsletter. The club had a great Christmas party at 8to8 Cigar Shop with 47 showing up for a great time. If you find yourself in the Chicago area and would be interested in the Chicago Pipe Collectors Club, let me know and I will put you in contact with someone to answer all your questions. I do not copy/paste the newsletter. Just try to pass on news of interest.

Anyone interested in the Pipe Making class at the Chicago show, ask me and I will get you info. Limited to 12. Cost this year is $125.00

Just as a side note I heard on the news the DuPage County Airport is trying to buy up land for expansion and is going ahead with trying to condemn Pheasant Run to head off the ownership group from turning the whole place into a retirement community.
The Gateway show in suburban St Louis is coming up on IPSD Feb 20th. I'll be hanging with the gang from Thursday to Sunday.

Probably should do a post in the Community In Action forum and then I will make it a Sticky until the date passes.

There is a St Louis show thread in the Community In Action forum.

Now that is some rumor about the airport and possible retirement community. I will have to ask around about that.
