Ordered a couple of ounces each of Butternut Burley and Scotty's Salmon River. Four ounces each of Sleepy Hollow and Rookwood from Straus Tobacconist, along with a Rider's Revenge cigar (though I seldom, if ever, smoke a cigar)... I thought I would make an exception.

AND, my first new pipe in 2018; a Peterson Jekyll and Hyde (05). I ordered it from one of my favorite retailers, Harrison & Simmonds in Bedfordshire, UK.

Hope everyone is having a blessed day!

Nice purchase!  How's that Butternut Burley?  It must be pretty good cause I just looked at P&C to get some and they are OOS!   The pipes are neat.  Which one is Jeykyll and which one is Hyde?

Butternut burley is one of my favorite "easy smoking" blends. It seldom ever needs a relight and it never burns hot. It will burn to ash and, for me, never leaves any dottle in the pipe. It's just a very friendly burley. I believe it must have a nice enough room note as I've not received any glares or complaints. lol

The Jekyll & Hyde is just one of the above pictured pipes with two finishes, smooth on one side and rusticated on the other... kind of a "bipolar" pipe.

I had one before and reluctantly sold it when I was flat busted. It will be good to have it back again. I bought the bent (05).

I have not but based on the Scotty's Trout Stream I placed an order for it. One of my buddy's at the local B&M got it and Trout Stream after smelling me smoking Trout Stream. I am reciprocating and ordering Butternut Burley after smelling him smoke that one.

I just ordered butternut burley yesterday at tobaccopipes along with a couple tins of escudo that is on sale.
Have you smoked butternut burley before?
No I haven't, but it looks like I'll try ordering it from Tobaccopipes next month.  Silly me, I should have looked more closely at the pipe picture.  I didn't realize it was Jekyll on one side and Hyde on the other!

It's an odd pipe, for sure. It probably wouldn't have much appeal to a lot of pipers, but it's quirkiness works for me. I love the story of Jekyll and Hyde and also feel that all of us has a good side as well as a darker side that we repress for the good of society. A bit of a bipolar thing as I mentioned earlier.

Nice purchase!
I'm actually starting to warm up to the Jekyll and Hyde pipes...But they come with a vulcanite stem...Bummer.

Jack, it's good to see you back here posting again and enjoying your pipes once more. IIRC you've tried to give it up twice in my memory but came back fighting each time. Hope this time sticks.

In any event it's great to have you back with us.

:D

Cheers,

RR

Yeah, the last time I was really going through some difficult times involving the care of my wife's parents. We're still going through it with them but I am learning to cope much better than at first. Just not what I thought I would be doing at this time in my life. But you've got to deal with what life hands you.

Ha! I didn't even remember that. It's fine with me though, I like vulcanite. It seems like I bought some stuff from Walker Briar Works that kept them pretty nice. I guess I'll be checking them out again.

I like them, I like the idea of the two finishes. If only I could convince the wife that I need another pipe
Do like I do, Just buy it and put it up awhile and then nonchalantly add it into the rotation. When she notices it just reply, "Oh, this old thing? I've had it for some time now."... you know, that's what they do to us with new clothes.
