This is a fairly old post I made on the Cubby, but as my site is dying a slow death I am going to post some of my pipe related stuff here and bore you guys half to death.
Until I saw a couple of pipes over on SF lately I was perfectly happy with my Bully, he's been a true and valued friend for almost 7 years now, only recently have i come to like Bully mind, long and more than dull story which I wont go into here. Any how, I really fancied the idea of getting myself a new pipe, one that was a little fancy if you follow my meaning, I'd always wanted a really 'good' pipe but of course one thing or another and well it never happened. This of course doesn't give one any sense of happiness or fulfilment, so I was looking at Bully earlier today whilst sipping from his bowl and the obvious dawned on me, why not turn Bully into something a bit special
Here was Bully before I got going this time:
Yeah okay, so bully is a cheap as chips pipe to begin with so wouldn't win any awards for original craftsmanship or design, but he's a rugged little blighter and he was game for a tarting up. I spent 2 1/2 hours working on him with my chisels and sandpaper until I had the kind of effect I felt best suited his stocky yet noble frame. I didn't want him to have a drab old 'samey' all over stain and polish, I had a need to make him look rather more interesting if you like, so I decided to play around with the dyes, I started with the dark brown and worked my way through to the dark red, sanding lightly all over the surface on each application of dye and heavily in random areas on each application as well.
Bully was looking very worn out and knackered from the whole process, despite how bizarre he was looking at that point I knew exactly how he was going to look once the polishing, waxing and buffing was done, and blow me if he aint looking even more handsome than I even expected.
Gather round and have a butchers at the all new BULLY, aint he gorgeous....
