At the end of my smoke (which went WAY longer than it usually does) I felt it get a little warm  in one place so I immediately dumped the contents, which was 98% black ash, out.  In doing the usual rudimentary cleaning I noticed the inside black bowl had a spot that had a little spotty white on the wall.  Could this have been burnt briar ash that had come through the cake where the pipe got too hot?

I mean... it could be, yeah, but most likely it's nothing to worry about. I burned the hell out of a pretty new Castello about 5 years ago, spider-webbed that sucker... it's still going strong.

Cheers,

Then there are those of us where something similar happened, which ended in a burn out not long after. :| :(
