Tomorrow will mark 25 years since Austin's favorite son died tragically in a helicopter crash after a live concert in East Troy, Wisconsin. IMO, it was one of the greatest losses to fans of the guitar, as there aren't many guitarists who can begin to compare to SRV. It is really sad, because he had beat his drug addiction, and was at the top of his game.

If you have a favorite performance, please add it to the thread.....

I saw him and Double Trouble live in Tucson about a year before his death. One of the few guys that heard that was better live than on recordings. Amazing!

I remember it like it was yesterday. It's hard to believe it was 25 years ago.

I saved this clipping from the paper the next morning, saved in my "In Step" CD (I'd made the move to CD's by then).

I saw him the year before his death. He was doing the "In Step" tour with Jeff Beck (Guitar Shop). I bought this picture at the concert, but had it stashed for 25 years. I just found it last year and put it in a frame by our pool table. I stashed the newspaper clipping behind it.

SRV was the first my first "guitar god". We named out Green Cheek Conure, "Stevie" in his honor. (or for Stevie Nicks, should he ever lay an egg...)
