How is it that I have some pipes that need the cake cut every handful of bowls, while others can go a year or more between cake maintenance? I have one pipe in particular that needs the cake shaved every few smokes. It's a great smoker, but it seems like I'm constantly thinking, "I just cut down the cake in this dang thing!"

Anyone care to address this? Any pipe makers? Briar harvesters? Is it fluid dynamics? I'd like to know the deal on this.
