I once experienced a "seiche" in New Orleans from an Alaskan earthquake.
I lived on a canal between Lake Pontchartrain and Lake Borgne.
I was on my upper deck smoking a cigar when waves started
rolling in the canal.  My first thought was a big boat making a wake.
The water sloshed up down  for several minutes, knocking boards out of people's docks.
I saw in the news people's swimming pools were sloshing over the sides.

I remember that... Yuppers, this is one moving jiggly blob we be floating on alright!

Good thing we live on a dynamic, constantly recirculating, shaking and reverberating planet, otherwise, life as we know it (perhaps all life?) couldn't exist. Kind of what the current mars probe is doing on that planet.
