I know this is an older post, but I have to say Thank You for the information. Pipedia has very little, especially on the dating portion. I am actually smoking a Caminetto Business KS 147 right now. I picked it up for 89 bucks at a pipe shop in Ohio last month. It really is a great smoker. It came with the original pipe sock and original box and paperwork that was in the box. I could not find a date code on the box at all, but the Caminetto is in script. It has the gold two part moustache on the stem. I would like to believe it a birth year pipe (1977) but have no proof. The closest I can narrow it based on this essay is between the late 70's/ early 80s. The box says BS KS 147 on it.
