Just received an e-mail from Mark Tinsky via his newsletter re: the '14 Xmas pipe release. This year the style is a Dublin and as usual he offers many different finishes and prices. I happen to love the Dublin style and will be considering one of these when funds can be made available. Here's what Mark had to say in the newsletter-

Hi All

The 2014 Christmas pipe is making its on line debut tonite. I began working on it since this summer and after some trial and error got the pipe I was looking for! It's a long tall Dublin excellently balanced with a slim stem accent ring made of faux ivory or becoute. The walls are generous and should give a fairly long cool smoke. The dimensions are  2" H x 1.75" W x 5  3/8" L and weighs 50 gm.

I had to use larger blocks than normal which I've been putting aside for years and most should  yield some good grains. I hope you will enjoy it for many years to come.

I've also added a Dress Blast finish as well as changing up the Dress Coral, using a natural smooth top and stamp panel for greater contrast. Also new is Pristine Root, a finish I've been using sporadically for a few years to mimic the orig uphill finish. I haven't gotten the Morta blast back yet so a picture will be added when it comes in. A direct link to the  Christmas pipe section is:

I hasten to add, I have no affiliation with Tinsky pipes other than I like them and have a couple. Just thought I'd share some pipe porn!

:bom:

Cheers,

RR

Looks like a beautiful line of pipes. Both blasts and the dark coral are really eye catchers to me.

A beautiful range of pipes indeed. Thanks for the heads up Rande.

Thanks for posting. It's always great to hear directly from the source and get the background behind the work. That Bengal is a stunner.

This year I have the money to order me a Tinsky but no bloody post office service to deliver it

Some of my packages are sitting at their depot since September already and I have no idea when it will reach me :(

I can't take a chance on ordering a pipe @R2,500 and not knowing if it will ever get to me

THe bloody :x

JUST SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!!! Those are some great looking Dublins. Every one in their own way.

Pete...   That's an easy enough fix.. Just buy it and ship it to my post office. I'll smoke to your health.  :p

I've never understood why 'naked coral' cost more than 'dark coral' in his catalog.... Seems like naked would be the cheapest.

Good point. And while they're both blasted perhaps it might have to do with the selection of the grain for the naked, as it might be subject to more scrutiny for defects. Just speculating.

Me, I rather like the Tan Blast. I've gone for the Dark Blast finish in the past, and while I do like this year's Dark Blast offering, the Tan Blast seemed to be the winner.

All the finishes are really nice in their own way as well. It's hard to choose and we're spoiled for choice here. And, the prices are very attractive for an artisan pipe.

Cheers,

RR

Thanks, my bro', I knew someone would help me out :D

About the naked coral being more expensive, have you ever seen a naked girl with blemishes on her body? No, it's the girls with perfect bodies who like to show off their ware. And, of course, they are more expensive than those with the not so perfect bodies. Well, same goes for pipes

I'm not so sure what planet you live on but I've seen plenty of naked women (I don't make a habit of being around naked girls, men my age go to prison for that here in the states) with blemishes.. And happily so.

Just kidding, I'm a virgin..  A Vigin ODA Freehand with a few small fills. Lol.

But the theory makes sense.

As a maker you can hide small flaws and sandpits with a darker stain......a naked pipe has to be damned near a flawless piece of briar.  He probably goes through 10 blocks to get one that can be left unstained.

I do like Pete's analogy though ;)
