Since we have had a great discussion about fingernails, I think that its appropriate to bring up another topic that is perhaps a little more sensitive.
I know that some of us play musical instruments that require fingernails of a functional size, but this is not the case with toenails.
They just sit there in a dark moist environment and don't do squat.
Unfortunately, if they are not happy then you are not happy.
How do you deal with your toenails?
Clip'em and forget'em or something else?

Friggin' toenails. Cut 'em short with a big clippers when needed.

Once had an ingrown toenail on my big toe and had to have it surgically removed. You haven't lived until you've had the experience of having a needle shoved into your toe and then the cutting away of the tissue. I limped for days after!

It was all I could do to not slap the Doc's hands away during the procedure!

No Cheers,
