Tavern Tobacco Laurel Flake is my grail tobacco. Best Va/Per I've ever smoked. Definitely brought back some good memories with this post Carlos!

Mine would be Bufflehead - Merganser Decoy and now I'm missing a couple of the Nording blends by McClelland, especially Labrador and Beagle. I should have bought more of them.

For me, it looks like this:

This is the original, not the stuff sold by Lane, then discontinued, and then finally made in Europe before it too went extinct. With enough age, those later incarnations are decent smokes, but they've never been the equal of the original.

I remember asking Greg Pease a dozen years ago, "Why doesn't someone just remake the original?" He replied that it's not possible because the tobacco that was used in the original isn't available any more.

It has been a slow but inexorable process. Many farms have been driven out of business by the War On Tobacco<img class="emojione" alt="™️" title=":tm:" title=":tm:" src="https://cdn.jsdelivr.net/emojione/assets/png/2122.png?v=2.2.7"/>, which drastically reduced the market for the Burleyweed used in EEHGS, as well as many of the other fine old Burleyweedages. It simply became unprofitable for the farms to keep growing tobacco. Kill profit = kill incentive to produce. It's a natural law.

Just to help the extinction process along, the land has been and is still being bought up at above-market prices by a subsidized Federal buy-back program funded with our tax dollars. The whole purpose of the program is to reduce the supply, driving up prices, and depressing the market. Then, by heaping hefty taxes on top of the selling price, they hope to drive the price up to a point that's higher than the market will bear, ultimately killing the market entirely.

Anyhow, as the birthdays add up, any residual infantile delusions of immortality have faded. What am I saving it for? So I figure, what the hey...it's time to smoke this stuff.
