Advice-modifying a Decatur Industries Pipe Rack?

The only routers I'm comfortable working with have lots of cables stuck in them, and lots of flashing lights.  So yes, you're correct I'm not a woodworking expert. But I do mess around with a Dremel, and I've been getting more adventurous with restoring pipes lately. Jim D.

Advice-modifying a Decatur Industries Pipe Rack?

Hi, I picked up a nice 3 x 12 Decatur Industries rack a while back - great price, didn't need it but just in case, etc. Now that I've decided to use it, I've run into a problem - all the holes that stems should fit into are closed at the front.  So longer-than-average stems, or bents won't fit...

Briar Pipes with a Virgin Finish

This seems to be an appropriate place to post my question. I've got an Erik Nording unfinished briar that I've been smoking on and off for several years. It smokes really well, and it's definitely darker than when I got it - due to smoke, tobacco juices oils from my hands, the wheel of time...

    First Timer

I live too dangerously close to Paul's. It's only about a 20 minute drive, so I only take the amount of money with me that I know I can comfortably spend. I've been going to Paul's since the mid 70's and feel very fortunate to have a shop like that so close. I also used to like the...

    First Timer

Thanks to everyone for the great responses. Time will tell - this morning there was some grumping about how his mouth tasted, and how his hair smelled. :P Buckshot - man, do I ever know what you mean. Dan showed me his newly acquired stock of Christiano's (he has a LOT of Christiano's)...

    good stem polish

I don't think there's anything I hate more (about pipe smoking) than oxidized vulcanite. The guy who figures out how to get it off quickly, easily, and completely without a lot of elbow grease will become rich very quickly. Walker Briar Works has a deoxidizer/cleaner that works pretty well. I...

What do you use to shine up your pipes?

Amazon sells it - buy a 8oz or one pound block and you'll never ever need to buy more. You can by Tripoli, Red Rouge, and Carnauba wax from them too. Jim D.

What do you use to shine up your pipes?

I keep my options open. Halcyon II does a nice job, but I try not to use it a lot. I've got a nice Harbor Freight buffer ($40) that I use for my restoring work. I keep one wheel charged with Carnauba, and it does a dandy job. But for day-to-day use, I just wipe my pipe off with a microfiber...

    First Timer

Not me, let me hasten to add. My (adult) son went with me to Paul's Pipe shop in Flint, MI about a month ago, and was seduced by two pipes he just had to have. I'd told him before that picking out a pipe at a pipe shop isn't so much you picking the pipe, as it is the pipe picking you - but...

    Greetings from Auburn Hills, MI!

Hello all, Pleased to be joining you here. I've been smoking/collecting pipes on and off for about 12 years - I just came off of a multi-year dry spell. So it's fun to be getting back up to speed again. I also like to restore the pipes I can - my skills are getting better, but I still won't...
