I tried Hereward's idea. If it's too hot.. it's creating steam. I set the bowl down until it's cooled off and then re-tamp and baam.. some flavor. I still have not tried my ribbon cuts in a larger bowl yet. I have a nice GBD pre-historic that should be back in a few weeks from Walker's Briar...

I'll try. I smoked some Sutliff Berkshire in there no problem. I'm using a Brigham. Would it be ok to maybe tear up the ribbons into smaller pieces? Sorry for the new guy questions...

Seems I have the most trouble with ribbon cut. I am under packing the bowl. With the smaller ribbon cut it packs fine for me.. I just loaded a bowl of Westminster (which was also a tad moist) and it was under packed and wouldn't stay lit... :roll: 

Could over packing cause the pipe to go out frequently? I just purchased this pipe. I tried another English blend and same thing. Burn in the throat on exhale. I smoked about half the bowl and had to abandon ship. Now wondering if its me, the baccy or the pipe lol

I don't inhale. But I have to blow the smoke out :). It's almost as if my throat closes when I exhale. I'll give it another shot.

I did try to dry it out. I tried it in both a filtered and unfiltered pipe. I smoked a different english blend and no issues. I'll give it another try. I tried some in my BBB Canadian and also a Brigham.

Well, I like Sutliff's Sunrise Smoke so I thought i'd give EMP a chance. I also picked up some London Mixture. Both of them were harsh, burned the back of my throat on exhale. London Mixture had a hard time staying lit also. Both didn't seem to offer much flavor at all.. Disappointed!

Thanks Dutch for the good idea. I smoked a bowl of some local tobacco last night, I dried it out for ~20 minutes in front of a fan. I still had dottle at the bottom, I guess it was cased.

I just smoked a bowl of Lord Methleys from 4Noggins.. heaven. I learned that I need to dry out some 'baccos and it was pleasant for the entire bowl, a few relights at the end. Has a cherry/berry flavour.

I slowed down and enjoyed a bowl of Berkshire from Sutliff. I made sure it was packed good, damn thing lasted about an hour, got good flavor once I slowed down and sipped rather than trying to imitate a locomotive engine.

I think the problem I might be having is slowing down. I need to slow the pace down a bit and quit trying to get as much smoke as I can.. :D

I'm still having issues with tobacco flavor. I get a hint of flavor and try to snork as well. Do you hold the smoke in your mouth and slowly exhale?
